The issue of this thread is whether or not, God loves fallen mankind, or just the supposedly previously chosen elect. Scripture is clear, God loves fallen mankind, as taught by John 3:16. Now some seek to redefine world to mean elect, but that dog will not hunt.
Christ laid down His life as a ransom for all, 1 Timothy 2:6. God demonstrated His love toward us when He died for us. Thus it is inescapable, God loves fallen mankind. Now it is true, that God both loves (agapeo) and loves (phileo) His elect, those He caused to be born anew, becoming part of His family. Titus 3:5 indicates God has love for mankind by the use of a word that means love for mankind. Some translations leave out the "for mankind" part but it is their in the Greek.
1 John Chapter 2 makes clear that Christ became the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only as born anew believers who are both Jews and Gentiles, but also for the whole world of fallen mankind, made up of Jews and Gentiles. See verses 2, 12 and 16.
Propitiation = Christ = means of salvation.
