Looks like someone didn't take a Critical Race Theory class.
Supposing that you were a rich white man educated both here and on the continent and expert in Julius Wellhausen and having insultingly been asked to show your ID to your racist ignorant inferiors on the premise that you might want to vote more than once as if one-man one-vote were not some sort of racist formula and multi-voting were not your prerogative as an intellectual....

Salty, I receive a voters card before every election from the election board. Why institute a new card requiring everyone to make a 2nd trip to some place, or to make people go apply for a new card every election. When I registered they kept a record of my address. That is all they need. If they accept you and register you there is no need for more than the address.
When I moved I let them know my new address via e-mail and received my new card in about a week.
What the GOP wants is to pile new regulations on old to make it difficult for minorities. I am not against cards, but am against skewed systems to try to prevent legal minority folk from voting.
The only other time I had to go to the office of registration was when I set things up so I could receive my absentee ballot in Prague. In my state that was also a simply procedure.
I've never understood the voter I.D. connection with racism. I guess because no connection exists.
I have to present my driver's license to vote. So what?
My brother, who is mentally handicapped doesn't have a driver's license. But, my dad took him to the DMV and he got an I.D. card that looks just like a driver's license, but cannot be used to drive a car.
How on EARTH does requiring that people very VERY simply prove who they are when voting (to help squash voter fraud) turn into a racist thing??

You would effectively eliminate over half of the GOP, including 90% of Baptists...

Incorrect. It's an economics thing. Poor black and brown people overwhelmingly don't have a driver's license because they don't have cars. They take the bus. And the GOP well knows this.
the same applies for Senior citizens. They don't have drivers licenses.
And often times people can't get the state id because of the other document requirements that they have to pay for in order to get a state ID.
Prima facie evidence again says that when you disparately impact a particular group, that legally it is considered discrimination. Not racism. But discrimination.

Scarlett it is not an honest argument and they know it. It is just a cover to let illegals vote. Nothing more.
As mentioned earlier a lot of these people cannot get the documents needed for ID. I will give you an example of someone I know and their situation.
A homeless Vietnam Vet who is homeless because he could not afford his house payment and the medication that keeps him alive. He could not get his Vet benefits because he only had a copy of his birth certificate. It also precluded him from getting a state issued ID/Drivers license. Now, he had his birth certificate, but it was an official copy that was not notarized. Only notarized, official state documents are acceptable.
My Sunday School teacher, who us also a Vietnam Vet, went to war with various agencies helping this guy get his benefits and he is now living in a hotel while things settled.
Imagine you are a poor, uneducated person that many consider "trash" that has no official documentation and no way to get it. It doesn't matter where the bus goes. A lot people in these situations don't even know what hospital they were born in, and many were born at home.
If they want to demand ID to prevent voter fraud it will have to be by way of fingerprints/dna or some other workable ID solution.
Fingerprints would be racist because they would show prior criminal activity.

That's the point right there Scarlett. I wasn't saying that there weren't poor white people without cars too. But studies have shown that there is significant difference in the number of poor black and brown people in most states without cars and licenses vs the number poor white people without them.
Either way you look at it, people's votes are being suppressed because they don't have a license. And when it the evidence shows that the majority of the people being affected by such a rule all share a common trait like skin color or age or income class, then it's considered a discriminatory practice.

It doesn't. Not having the money to get other documents does that. I remember a long time ago, back when I lost my license, the hoops I had to go through in order to get the right documentation so that I could have them replaced. I hadn't had a physical Social Security card since I was a kid of which I knew. i lived a long way away from my family so I didn't have access to my birth certificate. And they only accept certified copies of the birth certificate. And there's only certain places that you can get certified copies. And then you have to pay and then you have to wait. And I got to drive from that place back to the DMV and pay again and wait again to finally just get my license replaced.
Most poor people just don't have the ability to do or afford all of that.
And as was said, most of them don't have the documents or the money to get the documents required.
I recently took a young man to get a state ID so that he could look for work. It seemed like every time we went in there, they asked for something else. And after going all over creation from one agency to the next, we were able to finally get what was needed and get the kid a state ID.
It can pass by all it wants. If you can't afford the documents you need to get the ID or don't have the documents, then what good is a bus ride by the DMV?
That's just like saying they don't have to be poor if they don't want to be poor. They can just exercise their American privilege and just go out and get a better paying job or a job period.
It doesn't work like that when you've economically be set on a certain path because of a lack of education. And this happens A LOT in economically poor families in poor areas.
The public schools receive less because bills are passed to take funding away from them to give vouchers for alternative and private schools, and the amounts taken usually don't cover the costs of attending a private school.
So the schools in these poor areas receive less and less and the quality of the education gets worse and worse because the good teachers don't want to get stuck in these areas.
So a lot of the kids don't finish school and they certainly don't go to college. And then they get stuck in a system and a certain line of poorly paying jobs.
ECONOMICS.
Voter IDs clearly suppress the votes of the poor, black and white. And it just makes no sense to pass such a thing unless you just don't want more people to vote.

So this is REALLY why so many folks in the GOP are so mean and nasty about these folks. They think the Dems are trying to get more votes. I knew it.
Everything with some of you goes back to your politics instead of just plain ole decency and treating people like people.
Shameful.
This whole ID thing is silly. I find it pitiful that I can walk into an LA Fitness anywhere in the country with a little scan card and it can pull up my face and any other needed information but state governments haven't figured out how to set up the same type system for voting.
Okay, so you don't have documentation to vote in this election. Well, you have 2 years to get what you need!
As far as getting to DMV, I'm sure that if you call your local Dem HQ and tell them you need help to register to vote - they probably would.

The answer on the right always seems to be that we're giving you enough time, so just do it.
And that's just odd coming from folks who are always talking about the rule of law. The rule of law says you can't discriminate against people in protected classes.
These laws are clearly discriminatory.
So why isn't the right trumpeting the rule of law in this instance?

No need. My only sibling is one of those people whom the world views as pathetic and invisible refuse. I've lived with that heartache all of my life. And my constant fear is that I will die before he does and that he will have no one.
There are SCORES of primary and secondary documentation that homeless people can provide to get ID's.
You don't have to have birth certificate or social security card. In many places - if you are homeless you can have someone who knows you to fill out a "voucher" for you. You can contact your high school and have them send an affidavit.
It's mind blowing what is accepted as proof of citizenship. And it's important that those scores of documents be accepted because not everyone has access to their birth certificate.
But because there are many people who may have trouble getting quick access to these documents does not mean that there should be no voter accountability.
And I, for one, am sick to my stomach of hearing the accusation of intolerance and claims that white people just don't want people of color to vote and/or poor people to vote or that we are all about discrimination. It makes me so angry that I'm on the verge of tears and need to step away from the computer.
I want EVERYBODY to vote. I want everyone 18 and older to get off their backside and vote. Everybody. Whether you are voting with me or against me.

And here in lies the problem that is endemic in my fellow honkies. What works in your neighborhood doesn't work everywhere. In the state of Georgia, to get a license, or ID, you have to bring in a birth certificate or passport, and bills from utility companies, to prove you are who you say are and that you are a legal resident of the state. I have been a licensed driver for 30 years continiously and those are the hoops I had to jump through. My parents have been licensed for over 65 years and they had to do the same. The world is bigger than your own backyard.
