Catering to lawlessness? Sorry, I'm not following you here. Unless you mean that these commercials are geared to illegal immigrants. Is that it?

.

Well if "undocumented worker" is your saying I can see how it didn't connect....lawbreaker is Little harsh eh?

As far as I know, there is no law either in Mexico (though I might be wrong), or any Latino country that their primary language is Spanish, but do they need anyone to be bi-lingual ?

Spain[2] 46,754,784
Colombia[3] 44,725,543
Peru[4] 29,248,943
Venezuela[5] 27,635,743
Ecuador[6] 15,007,343
Guatemala[7] 13,824,463
Cuba[8] 11,087,330
Bolivia[9] 10,118,683
Honduras [10] 8,143,564
Paraguay[11] 6,459,058
El Salvador[12] 6,071,774
Costa Rica[13] 4,576,562
Panama[14] 3,460,462
Equatorial Guinea[15]

No, sir. America is a country that was settled primarily by English-speaking people. It is a country whose constitution has primarily been in the English language, where the history was written in the English language by English speaking historians.

Not true. Florida and the Southwest were first settled by Spanish speakers.
Louisiana was settled by French speakers.

Now, its peoples may have come from different Ethnic backgrounds like you mentioned, but once upon a time those settlers and immigrants struggled to learn the English language, and assimilated into the American culture.

Not necessarily. Check into your history on how many Germans never learned English. There were still German radio stations up to the beginning of WW II.

Those who came here legally know and can attest to the fact that among the many requirements is that they NOT BECOME A WARD OF THE STATE or the country, so those who sponsored them needed to show they have the means and the money to financially support those who come here from the home country or wherever until they also become socially and economically productive residents or citizens, and all these are requirements which ILLEGALS CIRCUMVENT and continue to do so successfully to the point that it is now the government of this country, and its citizens that need to give way and bend backwards to accomodate ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

We really do not know how many came legally and how many came illegally. Of course at first there were no laws ... anyone could come.

There was a time when if you arrived with no papers, but had a critical skill you were allowed in and a form was stamped WOP 'Without Papers'.

Come on ITL, the people of this country have always lived in a pluralistic society. I come from 1st generation Italians, Polish/Ukranian/Slovak's, Welsh/English (thats me) plus my cousins---Irish, German etc. So please dont tell me we are not all involved in a pluralistic world when in fact we are. But here is the deal, we integrate. Mostly because we all came over here (speaking for my ancestors) legal & above board.

Now when I take my daily walks into town with my trusty dog Kip, all the Spanish shops have one language signs advertising themselves.....care to guess what the one language is? Ding, Ding......"SPANISH" & whats that tell you?

Your being rational and might upset the demographic.

I'm pretty sure I wrote ILLEGAL immigrant, not "undocumented worker". But, see what you've been programmed to see, I suppose.

Seriously? What do you think motivates the commercials?

Oh, I don't know--A company's desire to sell their products to Hispanics?

According to the 2010 US Census there are 50.5 million Hispanic/Latino people living in the U.S. According to a Pew Research investigation there are 7 million illegal Hispanic/Latino immigrants living in the U.S. According to a DHS study there are 6.6 million illegal Hispanic/Latino immigrants in the U.S.

So, about 13.8% of Hispanics living in the U.S. are living here illegally. Now, how many of those illegal Hispanics sit at home and watch the TV shows that Target and Tide advertise on?

Do you really want to suggest that these commercials are targeted at lower income illegal immigrants that make up 13.8% of the spanish speaking population?

Im being real life honest:laugh:

I have a friend, a Russan immigrant who comes here & works for years to get enough capital to start a little coffee shop/deli/lunch counter & he puts it right by the train station comming in & out of NYC. This is the guys dream & he is prepared to put his neck on the line to make a successful small business. So he opens the place, is there every day at 4AM (with different coffee's, bagels, pastry, newspapers etc.) Now its in a city which was pretty much taken over by the Latino communities. And they wont buy a thing from this guy---even though he has the location closest to the train station. What they do is buy from their own....even if they have to go 2 blocks over, out of the way & pay more for it. This poor Russian guy even hired a Latino worker that knows the language & is from the area....to make sandwiches & serve. They even play Latin music & installed a TV playing a local Latin station. Still they wont even buy a cup of Joe from the guy.....but they will.....oh you know.

Now lets talk about fairness & integration.....Doesn't exist here. And Americans (and I consider that Russian Guy who got here legally & is trying to run a business, an American citizen) are supposed to give these illegals a fair shake....a path to being USA Citizens? RIGHT!!!

You do understand the difference between legal and illegal immigration, do you not? I read nothing in the article about illegal Spanish-speakers, yet you have made the contention that this is what the article is about. Show me that I am wrong.

I'm beginning to think that you think America is only for those born here...an idea which I could not disagree with you more adamantly.

I came here legally. I am an American citizen. America is as much my country as it is yours.
