Healing

Does you church believe in divine healing? Do you see miraculous healing on a regular basis? If not, why not? The Bible says we'll do greater works than those miraculous healings seen in New Testament times. I don't see that today, except for the purported healings in charismatic circles. Even taking into account that maybe some of those are not genuine, I believe most are. Why would anybody lie about such a thing?

If we're not seeing in our churches the kinds of miracles that happened in the New Testament churches, isn't this a dead Christianity, or at least very lacking?

The Bible says we'll do greater works than those . . . .
A couple things here.

Personally on the healing question, I believe that the gift of healing exists today. But because I also believe the speaking giftts of prophecy ended with the close of the canon of Holy Scripture, know one can know today when God will do such healing. We who are saved though can have our prayers answered according to God's will (1 John 5:13-15).

Now regarding what I quoted from your post. ". . . I say unto you, . . ." -- John 14:12 was limited to the of the 12 who who would become His Apostles.

How do you get that "He that believeth on me" was limited to the Apostles. I see no basis for believing that. Jesus did not qualify it that way, in my opinion.

I like the notes in the NET Bible on John 14.12.

What are the greater deeds that Jesus speaks of, and how is this related to his going to the Father? It is clear from both John 7:39 and 16:7 that the Holy Spirit will not come until Jesus has departed. After Pentecost and the coming of the Spirit to indwell believers in a permanent relationship, believers would be empowered to perform even greater deeds than those Jesus did during his earthly ministry. When the early chapters of Acts are examined, it is clear that, from a numerical standpoint, the deeds of Peter and the other Apostles surpassed those of Jesus in a single day (the day of Pentecost). On that day more were added to the church than had become followers of Jesus during the entire three years of his earthly ministry. And the message went forth not just in Judea, Samaria, and Galilee, but to the farthest parts of the known world. This understanding of what Jesus meant by “greater deeds” is more probable than a reference to “more spectacular miracles.” Certainly miraculous deeds were performed by the apostles as recounted in Acts, but these do not appear to have surpassed the works of Jesus himself in either degree or number.

and the Bible Knowledge Commentary...

The apostles would not necessarily do more stupendous miracles than Jesus did (e.g., feeding 5,000) but their outreach would be greater (e.g., Peter in one sermon had 3,000 converts). This was possible because Jesus had gone to the Father and had sent the Spirit. Miracles are important, but some evangelists have done even greater things than these by preaching the good news to many thousands of people.

Was that not fulfilled with His Apostles? ". . . Are all apostles? . . ." -- 1 Corinthians 12:29. Were not all those gifts operational? 1 Corinthians 12.

We believe that God can still heal, but does not gift any today to do that!

I am saying that I don't anywhere see that Jesus limited miraculous healing to the Apostles. Jesus said "He that believeth on me", not "you Apostles who believe on me."

the healings and miracles were for a specific time and purpose, for Acts!

In reading the Gospel you would think the apostles middle name was, “Oh ye of little faith!” Said with much sorrow and disappointment!

Agreed. 1 Corinthians 12. It is my understanding there were two speaking gifts which were in part. 1 Corinthians 13:9. And with the close of the giving of the Revelation of Christ, Revelation 22:18, the canon was closed. And three speaking gifts no longer work, 1 Corinthians 13:8-10; James 1:17.

It is our job to agree and to have faith. It is God’s job to perform that which we have asked. If that which we have asked does not come to pass we have done that which was required of us in at least believing and standing in agreement. When people go through things our faith and hope for them to overcome the obstacles before them is of great comfort!

The Apostle Paul himself said... “Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.” - Romans 14:1

disputations- diakrisis in the Greek - Discernings

I'm an old man I've been around to several churches ever since I was a kid. I believe in Healing yet I also know there are a lot of fakes out there. There use to be this man named AA Alan. He was a Pentecostal type who claimed the powers of healing. If a man or woman. wasn't healed he told them they didn't have enough faith This alone proved he had no such power. You see the disciples didn't ask about the faith of the one being healed. Christ told a few that there own faith had healed them. If this is true why would we need healers?
I remember a man asking him to come down to the children's hospital and heal some of the children there. He left town the next day instead.
Oral Roberts was suppose to be a healer.Benny Hinn is another who claims he can heal. there are several of them today and I believe everyone of them to be charlatans Money grubbing men.
As far as healing at our church we have seen a few healed but not by men. I believe they were healed through prayer. Yet even though it is God who does the healing. If He does heal it's always His will and not that of some man show off who claims he has the power.

Undoubtedly there are fake healers and fake healings. I have seen what I believe are both fake and genuine.

The church I grew up in used to do anointing with oil. My mom had that done once and her kidney stones disappeared next time she went to the doctor. I've heard of a few other miracles here and there.
