Health Care Law Repeal Efforts By House GOP Cost Nearly $50 Million: CBS Report

Thanks Republicans. But, hey, it is only our tax money.

While Republicans lambast the cost of implementing health care reform, a new report shows that their efforts to repeal the law have come at a major cost to taxpayers -- to the tune of nearly $50 million.

CBS' Nancy Cordes reported Wednesday that Republicans' many fruitless attempts at repealing the Affordable Care Act have taken up at least 80 hours of time on the House floor since 2010, amounting to two full work weeks. As the House, according to the Congressional Research Service, costs taxpayers $24 million a week to operate, those two weeks amounted to a total cost of approximately $48 million.

Really? Is that all you got? The House of Representatives do their job and people point out that it costs money.

Nothing to see here....move along.

That is the problem, they are not doing their job. They are playing politics. They know that anything they pass regarding overturning Obamacare is dead on arrival in the Senate. So, they are wasting your and my money. If you don't mind their wasting money, that is your concern. I do mind them wasting my money where there are many more important issues they are avoiding.

I believe that is part of their job. One of the reasons the vote is being held is so that any candidate running against an incumbent can use the incumbent's vote regarding ObamaCare against them in their campaign this fall.

I do mind them wasting my money where there are many more important issues they are avoiding.

You mean Obama's failure to work out a budget? Or did you have something else in mind?

You are right, it is purely politics and has nothing to do with the good of the country. Thus, they are irresponsibly wasting tax payer's money.

How can you work out a budget when Republicans oppose everything you propose ... including ideas Republicans once pushed for?

You mean the Obama budgets that every single Democrat rejected - or the Obama budgets that were simply overwhelmingly rejected by the Democrats?

I'm beginning to believe that these ZERO supporters are O2 starved! Seems like a good explanation for all their irrationality!:sleeping_2:

 You must be running out of material.

President Obama's landmark healthcare overhaul is projected to cost USD 1.76 trillion over a decade, reports the Congressional Budget Office, a hefty sum more than the USD 940 billion estimated when the healthcare legislation was signed into law. To put it mildly, ObamaCare's projected net worth is far off from its original estimate -- in fact, about USD 820 billion off. (http://m.yahoo.com/w/legobpengine/news/cbo-obamacare-price-tag-shifts-940-billion-1-163500655.html?orig_host_hdr=news.yahoo.com&.intl=US&.lang=en-US)

...And you're grousing about a comparatively piddly sum like $50 million?

I have to agree with you on this one. The Republicans know they cannot do anything about this until after the election if then and my guess is that even if Mitt Romney gets into office, which I don't think he will, they will come up with another excuse as to why they cannot get this repealed yet they spend millions in hopes of using this fraudulent attempt to try and win the election. This is a done deal and the damage has been done with greater harm coming so people had just better get ready for it. Because of this law we are no longer a government of the people, by the people and for the people. We are now clearly a Marxist nation in its beginning and there is no turning back. :tear:

Even if it cost a trillion dollars, it would still save us at least 1.6 trillion.

Well worth it.

... yet they spend millions...

The OP is a fraud.

The supposed amount is based on their budget per hour...

No one says that they are wasting millions when just one person is on the floor giving a speech to an empty room.

Or when they are all back home campaigning or fund raising.

If they spend 1 dollar it is still a fraud and a waste as they know they have no chance of repealing the law. This is election year politics as usual at the expense of the people.

And how do you know that there is no chance of anything...

Do you have a cyrstal ball or something?

Why are you against our representative form of government?

You seem to be much like Harry Reid who only allows votes when he knows that the outcome will be to his liking.

Simply repeating yourself is not a valid debate technique.

How do you know that they have no chance of repealing the law?
