Help needed - clothing issue - all hands on deck! LOL!

What's wrong with a dress code for staff? If you work at McDonalds, can you wear whatever you want to? NO! If you work for an airlines, can you wear what you want? NO! Dress up is a UNIFORM for church staff.

Having said that...the last half of your post does what you accuse folks of in the first part of your post. This is a conscience issue. Let the Priesthood of the believer work. But don't "mock standards" in the same breath that you decry others for supposedly doing the same.
not just like any other job....that's not the point. The point is - our church has had several Pastors who require PAID staff to dress a certain way, and REQUESTS that others, such as us musicians. represent the church with respect, dignity and modesty. We all agree, so we do it. We don't ask why....we KNOW why.
If I want to be casual, I can go to a bowling alley.

The bible even decrys dressing up.. and putting on a show.. .and this seems to be what you are upholding...
People shouldn't have to dress a part to earn respect from others...

Absolutely. I've been at my church since I was 3 years old and I think I've seen my pastor wear a real tie maybe once or twice. On Sunday mornings, he'll occassionally wear a bolo tie if he wants to look dressed-up. :laugh:
I'm the song leader and I generally wear a polo and jeans.

Every church is different. I think if this becomes a real issue annsi, then out of respect, your husband should wear a jacket, but the pastor may be perfectly happy with Joshua's suggestion of the vests considering all that your husband does.
Society in general has become more relaxed in dress. When Ron and I got married, he wore a suit to work every day. Now he wears a button down and slacks in the winter. He may or may not wear a tie. In the summer, he wears a golf shirt with the company name embroidered on it. He's the VP of sales. This is the same way folks in this area come to church for the most part. We still have some come in coats and ties, but not many. I do still wear a dress every Sunday, but it's one that I also wear to teach in - appropriate to wear anywhere.

Why do you people find it so hard to live for the Lord. Isn't He something special in your life. Is going to your church just like another trip to the grocery store. Shirts unbuttoned down the front, Sleeves rolled up, no tie or coats, blue jeans and monkey suits and a PASTOR that requires the people on the platform to "dress up" is advocating extra biblical standards! Where are we headed....?

If wearing a suit is a personal requirement for worship, then there are so many churches to chose from, I'm sure one can be found - just as one can be found that only uses the KJV. The converse is also true.

Saying, "I am dressing up for the Lord" is a prideful way to get noticed...
The Bible says to not wear expensive clothes.. it is right there in black and white...

That means that we should not imitate the Business world by requiring "Staff" to wear Business suits.
We should be seperate.
Listen, I wore a double breasted suit this past Sunday... I enjoy wearing them sometimes... but I don't think clothing should be a mark of spirituallity... That seems to be what you are advocating.
I have also preached from blue jeans...
What did Jesus wear?... after all, he was homeless during his ministry...
