Heretic hunters

My Grandmother would listen faithfully when Oral Roberts came on TV begging for money about 44 years ago. I'll never forget it... He would ask all his viewers to lay their hands on the TV to be prayed for and healed... Grandma followed right along... Glad San Diego has good weather... Knowing Grandma she would have done it during a thunder storm  ... He fleeced a million Grandmas just like mine... He sheared the flock to feed his bank account!... Many times Grandma went without but he never did! :( ... Brother Glen

"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye devour widows' houses and for a pretense make a long prayer: therefore ye shall recieve the greater damnation." Matthew 23:14

Ezekiel 13, Jeremiah 23, too many other passages to list....I think that makes God a heresy hunter too

2 quick things:

1. These pagans are not Christian.

2. The Lord uses it when we understand what the enemy is teaching so that we can expose them for what they are and not allowing them to fleece any more of the flock.

I mentioned Mike Warnke earlier.

Would believe that, even after he's gone to jail and been exposed as a fraud by everyone from C-Stone magazine to Bill O'Reilly, he's still trying to pass himself off as a Satanist "high priest" and is still trying to pass his stories of being a heroic Marine Corps medic in the jungles Viet Nam as truth?

The only truth in the story is that he really was a medic but never saw combat.

Like a cockroach after a nuclear holocaust, Bob Tilton's back, too.

How anybody takes this guy seriously, I have no idea.

Mike

Well, I finally heard it with my own ears tonight. Mr. Hinn did say that Adam could fly (not that I doubted the folks who told me, but I can verify it too now.)

If man was given dominion over the fowl of the air, he must have been able to do everything the fowl do, including flying, Mr. Hinn said.

I suppose that to have dominion over the elephants we must be able to pick up tree trunks with our noses.

(BTW, the audio was provided by CrossTV, which is presenting a series on how to interpret scripture. Mr. Hinn doesn't seem to make the grade.)

Okay, here's my two cents for seeing if a tv ministry is fraudulent or not:

If you're hearing them say "this program depends in the faithful support of viewers like you. Your faithful support makes this program possible" they're probably genuine.

If you're hearing "God is telling you to make a love gift right now. don't wait. Don't be cut off God's blessings" Well, you can figure that out.

I shudder to think, but it seems that the phrase "prosperity gospel" is becoming quite overused.

It seems like a preacher can't preach positive Christianity without at least one person whipping out the branding iron.

OK, Johnv, it's obvious you're just wingin' it.

Adam can fly? So can I! (via Southwest Airlines, of course!) And I glow in the dark!

On a serious note, I surely grieve over the apostasy put-forth on TBN. To think they are 'representing' Christ in America and over the world! YECH!

Marilyn Hickey update: Marilyn and Oral Roberts have some anointing oil they'll be happy to send you -- for a price. It comes in its own cute keyring vial, along with the prayer they said over it.

BTW, I know this thread has been critical of Mr. Hinn, but he did a fine thing today. He led the congregation through all the verses of "Crown Him with Many Crowns."

Now, I don't agree with Mr. Hinn, but anybody who can interpret and appreciate Charles Wesley like that ... well, I don't know.

At least he can appreciate one of the finest hymns ever written. Maybe there's hope yet.

All 9 verses?

See Crown Him With Many Crowns (Cyberhymnal.org)

I thinks I'll post the lyrics in music forum anyway

More info from cyberhymnal: Words: Verses 1, 4, 5, 6 & 9: Matthew Bridges, The Passion of Jesus, 1852; verses 2 & 3: Godfrey Thring, Hymns and Sacred Lyrics, 1874. Music: “Diademata,” George J. Elvey, 1868

Although I am sure Mr Wesley would claim he wished he did write this one if asked

At least he can appreciate one of the finest hymns ever written. Maybe there's hope yet.
When I discuss Mr Hinn's adventures with a mate of mine, he reminds me "A stopped watch is right twice a day" ;) When I think of Mr Hinn I am also reminded of they saying "While theres life theres hope" ;)

Just wanted to add this to the cause. Paul said, " I preach Christ crucified.". Is Christ the center of their preaching? You can listen for hours and never hear Jesus name. When Jesus was brought a paralytic, did he heal him immediately? No, but first he said, "Be of good cheer thy sins be forgiven thee."Matt.9:2 I am saddened by those who preach the gospel of healing the body, while they have little regard for preaching the true Gospel of forgiveness of sins, through faith in Christ. Jesus tells the paralytic that forgiveness of sin is enough to make one glad, even if you can't walk. Everyone will not be healed of bodily infirmaties but everyone can be forgiven who has faith in Christ. These men pray on desperate people and give them false hope while Jesus can give them hope that will not disappoint, forgiveness of sins. Blessings, WP

Well, Pete, I'm busted.

Where in the world did I get that idea? I should have looked it up. Did my brain just overheat or did Mr. Hinn say that?

You may rap my knuckles soundly with a hymnal.
