Historic PreMil

The belief that after the second coming of Christ [which hasn't happened yet] that there will be a thousand year reign of Christ. [which hasn't happened yet]
I think I meant to say 'historic Premil, where the rapture comes after the Tribulation [where neither have happened yet :) ]

Matthew 24 and Mark 13 tell us many details about His coming again, including the timing of it and our joining Him as His people, should any of us still be here ( instead of already with Him ) when He does come.
What would you say about the very early believers (who were closest to the source), and who were premil and carried that on until Augustine introduced Amillennialism?
How did Amillennialism take root in the light of Matt 24 & Mark13?

He is new to me. Pardon my ignorance.
I looked up books he had written.
He wrote "The Blessed Hope."
1956. In December 1994 I had gotten a copy of it's 1992 reprinting.
I hadn't remembered he was that author.
The book is an excellent read.

@37818 Do you recall anything out of the book, especially his stronger points?

I had gotten the book 30 years ago. I was interested at the time about what he wrote about the rise and spread of pre-tribulationalism.

When I bought the book was already a post-tribulationist.

I am, as of now, doing a reread.

The chapters of the book, I think will be as of now more useful.
Introduction. He explains his purpose.
In my own words, to be pre-trib friendly. This is not a bad thing.

Chapter 1. The historic hope of the church.
Chapter 2. The rise and spread of pre-tribulationalism.
Chapter 3. The vocabulary of the blessed hope.
Chapter 4. The Tribulation, the rapture, and the resurrection.
Chapter 5. A valid inference?
Chapter 6. Watch.
Chapter 7. Wrath or tribulation?
Chapter 8. Rightly dividing the Word.
Chapter,9. The blessed hope.

Conclusion.

My take on this. The Blessed Hope being the second coming of Christ, not the rapture of the church.

I do have my own arguments.

I sure hope so. I wish Paul were here to explain certain difficulties.
In reality, we as believers in Jesus Christ don't absolutely need Paul to clarify things for us;
Though it may, at times, seem to have been overly convenient for God to allow it. ;)
The Lord gave us His Spirit ( 1 Corinthians 2, 1 John 2:20-27 ) for that, and the command to study... in order to rightly divide the word of truth ( 2 Timothy 2:15 ).

So, keep reading...over and over again.
It may take awhile.
Incidentally, after 46+ years after God called me by His grace in 1978, I'm "Pre-Mil" and "Post-Trib" because that's what I see when I read it for myself.

May God bless you richly, and in many ways. :)

[Caveat: I'm opting NOT to get involved in another round of the "when" game. Personally, "I'm so pre-trib, pre-mil that I don't even eat post toasties". Next thing I'm looking for is NOT the tribulation or hell-on-earth that will occur for seven years. Looking for the UPPER-taker to save His bride!]

Will enjoy watching this thread. Always good to see folks reading and studying the Word, and (no matter when) LOVING HIS APPEARING!

I'm sorry, I'm not Roman Catholic, I still hold to sola Scriptura, where Scripture has the last word in theological matters. I've encountered too many who have claimed,"The Spirit told me this" or "The Spirit told me that", all the while contradicting God's sure Word.

Hi Dr. Bob, Post Toasties aside (lol), I was more interested in the historical premil position rather than the actual timing of the Rapture, and was just wondering if there were any others besides George Eldon Ladd to help understand it.
