You're forgetting one very important purpose of government, and that is to promote the general welfare*. One can hollar "hypocrite" all he wants, it's a function of the office.

*That doesn't mean the redistribution of money.

Is it a perverted lie to sing the National Anthem? So many Americans do not proudly hail the star-spangled banner? And can a nation be free and brave, or can only individuals?

It is never claimed the nation is brave and free, it is the land of the free and home of the brave.

And of course people sing words without meaning them all the time, even in church

That is a lot different that perpetuating the lie that America puts her trust in God.

I'm not convinced. Just how? One either means what one says/sings, or one does not.

In your opinion, was the secular nature of the new nation violated by the acknowledgement of God officially in statements such as this?

"When we view the blessings with which our country has been favored, those which we now enjoy, and the means which we possess of handing them down unimpaired to our latest posterity, our attention is irresistibly drawn to the source from whence they flow. Let us then, unite in offering our most grateful acknowledgments for these blessings to the Divine Author of All Good."

-James Monroe, 5th U.S. President, second annual message to congress, Nov.16,1818.

This quote says nothing distinctive about Christianity or the gospel. The founding documents contain nothing distinctive, either. Even if they did, this country has never looked like Christ in any sense, and therefore cannot be called a "Christian" place.

One is personal, the other corporate. One is a person choosing to lie is song, another is representatives choosing a lie. Neither is right.

How many of these 400 or so politicians even desire that America should trust God?

That doesn't answer the question at all.

Of course it does. If you don't like the answer , ask a different question.

Or provide a better , more accurate answer.

They are the ones who who'd rather live comfortably as slaves than suffer for liberty. That's practically every other country, especially in Europe. It's pretty much this country now.

Quite significant. If we are part of a corporate body-- in church, as citizens of a nation-- and we say or sing anything which claims "we...anything," only one person therein being untruthful makes the corporate body untruthful. So... we don't sing or say anything as a corporate body. Should we?
