In my Calvinist Baptist church the philosophy is much different than my wife's IFB church. At this church they have elders and are run that way. New prospects are given position papers to take home and fill out so the elders know where they stand. Then if qualified they allow them to start in the basics as a sub.
My old church as long as you were a member and the pastor liked you he gave you a shot to teach. The problem I had was not when I officially taught but when I did not teach. SS was discussion based and some of my comments introduced Calvinism which the church was against. Also I did not carry a KJV with me when I did not teach which made people uncomfortable.
So how does your church work? My new church does a great job at filtering out heresy and bad teaching. A IFB baptist who is married to a Reformed baptist would not even get a shot to teach here.
