From boyhood, I was "husky", and I began lifting weights & doing isometrics in HS to help me play football & baseball better. In the Navy, I swam & lifted when I could. I weighed 212 when I left for boot camp June '66.

Some admiral wanted me to box Lt-hvy, so I struggled to get down to 178, then the Lt-hvy limit. I made it, fought in one tourney, but I made that admiral happy by stopping a Marine in 2 rounds. From then on, things were easy for me in the NAV till I reached Nam. I soon reached about 215 since I wasn't boxing any more. But the heat & often-18-hr workdays in Nam made me lose to about 175. When I eas DCd & home, I began boxing as a lt-hvy, but I soon realized I was not gonna be able to maintain that low weight & stay healthy. So I ate naturally, hit the weights, & in 2 years I was up to about 235. By then, I had begun to play semipro football(Believe me, it's NOT glamorous, nor for the faint-of-heart), playing FB/LB.(almost all "semipros" play both ways!)

I stayed at about 235-240, eating normally all that time.

Not long after I hung up mu cleats for good, my gall bladder ruptured w/o warning, giving me peritonitis. I had emergency surgery, losing some small intestine to infection. Over the next month, I lost over a pound a day, bottoming out at about 170...but I was skin & bone! During the four months after the surgery, I ate little but Jello , rice products, & some fish. Since then, I've found I cannot eat anything w/the slightest amount of grease nor spice except a little salt or a little pepper or paprika. I cannot digest any meat but potted meat or other pureed meat. I'm on a bland diet that would keep many a person thin. But I'm back up to 240 or so, and am, aside from occasional gastric probs, quite healthy.

Also, soon as the docs OKd it, I began exercising/lifting to renew my strength and energy.

Am I a glutton? Couldn't be if I wanted to...I'd collapse in pain if I overate. Am I overweight? By some people's standards, yes. I am 6'2" w/a fairly large frame, so my weight isn't too above ordinary for my height/health/structure, IMHO.

    MEANWHILE, BACK AT THE RANCH.............

TT originally asked, "How fat does one hafta be to be a sinner?" My answer? "Fat enuff to exist".

I think the weight thingie is another legalistic thingie we Baptists should avoid.

Clearly, anyone who is fatter than me (most folks would fit in this category) is a glutton, and needs to repent. Those who are thinner than me are clearly persuing a life of vanity! Man looks on the outward appearance, God looks at the heart! He even knows who the skinny gluttons are!
