How many books are necessary?

Wow, y'all have some serious collections on your iPods / Kindles / Nooks / apps on computer / actual physical books on shelves. And I thought my 563 books on my tablet were a lot. Of those, I'd say about 150 or so are theology/religious in nature. The rest are an assortment of non-fiction/reference and fiction.

Although I do have to admit that I haven't even come close to reading all of them. Maybe if I was unemployed/retired/laid up in bed for a month due to an injury, I'd be able to make a dent in that number of unread titles. LOL!!

:)

But you have them just in case! LOL

I just went into my Amazon digital account to look for the next book I'm going to read and see that I have 1544 books. :) I'd say I purchased less than a dozen of those. LOVE free books!

OK - So I'm torn between An Unlikely Convert by Rosaria Butterfield or Running on Empty: The Gospel for Women in Ministry by Barbara Bancroft. Or maybe Tim Keller's Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God.

Choices, choices!!

I have the Expositor's Commentary, Robertson's NT Word Pictures (6 vol), Vincent Word Studies (4 vol), Weust's Word Studies (4 vol), and Matthew Henry's 6 volume work that i use weekly. There is pleeeeeenty of information here that is useful for exposition. Not including the commentary set, i Probably paid less than $200 for all those sets.
Those are good tools, and just add a good bible dictionary/study bible, good to go!

Ecc 12:11-12 The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd. And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

A concordance, lexicon, a good set of commentaries and the Bible are all that would be needed for someone on a budget and having to work.
Better yet, good bible sogteare package lik Accordance/BibleWorks/Logos, good to go!

Just because someone took something and made it into something it's not doesn't mean the original was bad. It's like saying because Jehovah's Witnesses took the Bible and made it a cult makes the Bible bad. Just doesn't work that way.

True, but Dr Schuller Theology was rotten to its core, so any spawmed of that would be also?

Some have said that the book "How to win Friends..." is a bunch of garbage.
Part of the reasoning is that is that its about self-esteem

Well, so many people say "I can't do it." Sometimes we need a positive attitude to help us.
Even Christians will have a negative attitude. All Bible believing colleges and universities have secular books in their libraries. And it would NOT surprise me if these same schools had said book in their library.

They have books in their library for research purposes. This does not mean that they teach from these books.

There is a BIG differene between notbeating yourself up and wht Schuller an Olsten preach!
They would say our biggest problem is that we see ourselves too badly, do not realise just how good we really are!
