Hyles Anderson College under Schaap

Sorry Preacher, I'm not biting. I've already been there my friend. I spent twenty years eating up Hyles/Gray/Schaap/etc-type preaching. Then one day I got nauseous, very nauseous, and vomited out all man-centered worship. Now I feel clean, very clean. The words may be a little harsh but they're meant to help you. I pray you will not waste twenty years in that cult.

I couldn't agree more. It is like a cult. I spent too many years in such triumphant, self-congratulating, proud, and mindless nonsense. Christ is not honored, but a nostalgic longing for a long gone cultural ideal is honored instead. I, too, desire not to be harsh, and my heart goes out to young folks who get caught up in it. I guess I will be charged as a "professional critic," a traitor (since I'm a Hyles-Anderson alumnus), or an apostate. So be it. The gospel is too precious to be exchanged for man's law.

Blessings,
Bill

Amen, Bill. I thank God that I never went to HAC as I had once planned. I can't imagine what four years there would have been like. For me, it wasn't until I saw some real authoritarian abuse under a Longview/Gray disciple that my eyes began to open.

Preacher Boy, if you're still out there, listen to me. Despots always turn on the charm when it's needed to maintain control. If they time it well, they succeed in keeping people in their "camp".

My recommendation, and I think Bill will back me up, is that you find a place to learn some serious bible doctrine, where you can form your own convictions based on your own understanding of the bible and not the "mannagawd's" preferences.

It's funny that I grew up not 50 miles east of Hammond and not heard of Hyles until I moved down to MO and it was by IFBs who knew I came from Indiana that I heard the name Hyles. I still didn't know who they were talking about until my dad reminded me of a time our family was invited to sing at a "bible bash" at a church of their affiliation near Hammond.

One side of the church was filled with graduates of this college who came to preach for 5 mins. After their time was up, a timer would go off and the next contestant would jump up and give it a shot. We called it tag team preaching (preaching used in a loose sense). Needless to say, we didn't take the church up on their offer to sing at the next year's "bible bash".

Don't listen to these people who spend there time being critical of one of the greatest works in the world for God. Hyles-Anderson is the greatest place you can learn to serve God. Don't quit, be a servant, give your life for others, read your Bible everyday and pray for the power of God to rest upon your life and you'll be alright. These guys are entitle to their opions and unfortunatly they are wrong. I'm sure their saved, love God, go soulwinning, are serving in their church and are an aset to their Pasor and their church. If these people spend as much time on the internet as they would be passing out track and telling people about Jesus revivel would break out. I believe though they are more concerned about FBC than their own work that God has given them to do. P B88 don't come back to this site.

There's a pot on line 1 for you, myhac. Said something about a black kettle.

Where is the spirit of Christ? Can't we all agree to disagree in a gentle spirit? I know we have that boldness behind our keyboards. But we all need to agree to disagree in love. After all, we are all God's children. It is shameful how we fight each other about colleges and others. Let's step back and check ourselves. Would Christ approve this kind of a behavior?

Didn't Christ himself call out hypocrisy? And didn't he use much stronger language than I did?

Myhac made a critical comment, on an Internet message board, about other people spending too much time on an Internet message board. There's no better example of hypocrisy than this.
