Oh dear....pneumonia is a frightful illness....the cough is very wearing particularly if you have fractured a rib with it.

I had it a number of years ago, not sick enough for hospital, but if someone had suggested shooting me, I possibly would have thought it a good idea. I had a pneumonia vaccine afterwards.....but it is not available in New Zealand where I now live.

Splint your chest with a small pillow or cushion when you cough, ensure your doctor is prescribing adequate analgesia, as if it is too painful to cough....you will do your best not to which exacebates the whole thing. I ended up with some vile concoction which helped but made me very tremulous. The exhaustion of not sleeping well can be a little alleviated by packing pillows around yourself and sitting mostly upright.

Plenty of fluids ......you will get through it...my prayers are with you!.

This is good advice. When my father was dying of lung cancer, he bought himself a big teddy bear that he held against his chest when he coughed. A pillow does the same thing, but he bought a teddy bear since he never had one as a child of the Great Depression. He always wanted one as a kid and he joked that finally had an excuse to get one as an adult.
