Russia, for one. Now, I don't trust Russia at all, but I think we should avoid unnecessary public offense. Secret actions are another matter.

Revmitchell said:Sorry but Russia is only out for their own. They have very little concern other than to be a world power once again. Name more.
StefanM said:European countries like France and Germany also come into play.
I'm not saying we should placate terrorists. I'm simply saying we shouldn't spout off meaningless labels.
Revmitchell said:And what determines "meaningless labels"? France and Germany were involved in illegal deals with Saddam which by passed the food for oil program intended to take care of the Iraqi people. They are a primary reason for the failure of the sanctions and cease fire agreement. They have no credibility. You can be sure their motive is based on trying to survived because of their failed marxist policies.
StefanM said:I'm not saying that they have any credibility. In diplomacy, I say trust no one. However, I think it unwise to inflame negative sentiment when doing so provides no significant benefit.
We're the Big Satan to most of the world because of Bush's policies. I believe Obama will change that and we'll actually have some allies again. Many countries will still be our enemies but we don't have to antagonize them by calling them the "Axis of Evil."

sure shut down the prisoner-of-war camp and put these guys in our local neighborhood prisons, than when their friends try to break them out, hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians will be in "harms" way!StefanM said:I'm with you. I didn't vote for Obama, nor do I support many of his positions. On this one, however, I think he made a wise choice. We aren't going to go easy on terrorists; we are just shutting down a prison that hindered our internal relations and credibility.
Nothing Obama does will change how the hate-mongers of this world see the USA. There has always been those individuals and countries that hate the USA. That is a fact. Clinton tried hard to appease the feelings of those hate-mongers, and people still hated us.JustChristian said:We're the Big Satan to most of the world because of Bush's policies. righteousdude2 said:Getting rid of Gitmo. Making America more hospitable toward its enemies and captives, will change no hate. Being Politically correct and allowing our form of justice to protect the rights of these evil doers will not change their hate.
StefanM said:Ok, so why don't we just summarily execute them?
The test of justice is not found in our treatment of the innocent but of the guilty.
KenH said:Well, conservatives keep saying that former President Bush kept us safe since 9/11. So what about 9/11/2001? Does he get a mulligan for that?
dcorbett said:No, give that one to Clinton.
KenH said:Yeah, that figures. Some right-wingers have a hard time admitting the truth about their heroes.

All this does is makes us weak, and more vulnerable for a major attack, with a huge loss of human life.
This is war, and it must be fought on the same grounds that the enemy uses against us. Anything less, makes us vulnerable and weak!
WAKE UP AMERICA:wavey:
Bush is responsible for what happened during his administration. If we had another major terrorist strike in the U.S. tomorrow wouldn't you blame it on Obama? Or would it be Bush's fault?StefanM said:President Bush was in office for less than 8 months by 9/11/01. It's not invalid to cite the lack of terrorist attacks in the US during the rest of Bush's presidency, but liberal hatred of Bush overlooks that fact.
Bush did a lot of stupid things, but give credit where it is due.
