If you were going thur a difficult period and a RC gave you a set of rosary beads to get you though that rough period - would you accept them or what?

I would thank them but explain to them that I do not pray the Rosary and I am not Catholic so they wouldn't get used so it would be best for them to keep them. I'd be kind about it but not accept it.

I don't believe in idolatry. Raised as a Catholic, I know that my God is much more powerful than their form of religion. There is no need for a rosary, there is a need for God.

I would first thank them for their thoughtfulness and then attempt to show the the way of salvation so they might be saved and come to know Jesus Christ as not merely the only mediator between God and man but the totally all sufficient mediator between God and man.

I would kindly decline the rosary beads, and then do 1 of 2 things, depending on the circumstances

Option 1: decline and leave it at that.

Option 2: decline, and explain that we dont need supposed *magic* prayer beads directed to a catholic "goddess" who is worshipped by catholics, since we can go directly to God through believers prayer.

I do have a rosary - it was given to me by my grandmother. It belonged to my grandfather before he converted to being a Protestant. He kept them, but never used them, obviously.

I wear the rosary as jewelry from time to time. If someone were to give me one with the expectation that I would use them as prayer beads, I would graciously accept with the explanation that I do not pray to Mary nor would be using the beads for anything other than jewelry.

Wish RC's would consider when Jesus was on the cross looking at His mother and said "behold your son" then to the disciple "behold your mother".

Maybe I am a bit dense, but I'm have trouble discerning, from your post..which which way you lean regarding the rosary.

Are you saying it IS a legitimate christian practice...or not?

No it is not. Praying to Mary is silly too. That is why Jesus made the separation from Himself and His mother while on the cross.

The rosary is Chrisotcentric prayer. How do you get to idoloatry?

And they might rightfully laugh at you over option#2. ;)

Yes, care for parents is a primary Jewish obligation. Christians should read the 10 Words they demand be posted in public places although that fuss has died down. You Baptists given up on your Ten Commandments?

"Hail Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen"

"Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley, of tears. Turn, then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus; O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary." [emphasis mine]

The rosary is not at all Christocentric, but rather Mariolatry which is most certainly idolatry.

This would be a very kind, unoffensive response. If someone were thoughtful enough to express their concern for my trouble by offering me something that they believe will help, I am not going to shoot them out of the saddle with a theological discourse on who is the only Mediator. I, too, would politely tell them that I do not pray to Mary but rather to the Heavenly Father. I'm sure that a right response on my part would open the door to further sharing of the gospel at a later time.

Not only that but you say 10 Hail Mary's for every one Our Father.

It is defintely unScriptural, and idolatrous. There are many idolatrous/unScriptural practices within the RCC. Church tradition has supplanted Scripture. Furthermore, the RCC has yet to recant that all outside of her are lost (unless they've done so recently).

If you count the Fatima Prayer in your tally, it's 5 to 1.

"Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of Hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy."

It's called the Fatima Prayer because it was first recited by 10-year old Lucia Santos after her vision of the Virgin Mary at Fatima, Portugal, on July 13, 1917.
