Is It Time to Boycott Marvel Comics???

Now that the Green Lantern has come out of the proverbial closet, I wonder how long it will be before the Marvel Company decides to bring another superhero out of the same closet?

This is the liberalization and watering down of American values and morality, and just because it is ever so slow, doesn't mean it isn't still eating away at, and eroding the foundation upon which our younger generation's values and morals will have to stand.

Not only is the need for tolerance being forced down our throats at every social turn, the not-to-silent crusade to reach the children and teens of our society is being accomplished in the halls of public education; local, state and federal government; and through the corporate businesses that provide literature and textbooks fully condoning same s@% sin. I do not agree with these intellectual minds who claim that this is merely a natural and normal part of the evolution of our modern-day society.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO SIN???
It may not be time for us to go out and burn every comic book in the nation, but it is a way past time for those in the church to make their voices known to businesses like Marvel Comics and Hollywood. If it means bundling up your child's comic books, and related computer generated games and returning them to the business from which they came for a refund (as a matter of principle), then so be it! It's a place to begin.

In case you haven't noticed, there is a move in America to take the sin out of same-gender relationships. This should call for the church to retaliate with a full-blown boycott of said products will deliver a message where it's felt most: In their profit margins and bank accounts of those individuals and corporations that are behind the de-sin-cilization of American values and morals.

Since when does the world decide what is sin? Last I heard that was still God's job and He expects them to sin. Not sinning would hardly keep them from being condemned (they are condemned already according to John 3:17). If we as Christians are doing what we believe is right, then we won't be buying Green Lantern comic books in the first place. If we are, well God knows how to deal with His own children. But while we are not buying comic books, perhaps we need to take a close look at what books we are buying.....sexual sin is sexual sin. It's all wrong. When Christians start doing what we are supposed to be doing then we can start telling everyone else what they should do. Until then God is still in control.

Just lost ppl acting lost.

The prototype for boycotts for me has always been the SBC's of Disney...worked pretty well for them huh?

This isn't the first homosexual comic book character nor comic strip character. The Archies had a homosexual soldier not long ago who married his partner in the comic book series. The writer of the Archies takes credit for the now Green Lantern being portrayed as gay. And yes ..... there is an agenda.

Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater tells TMZ, "We love the fact that everyone is following Archie's lead. We broke new ground. We have led in so many areas. We are proud we are first."

But the real reason Goldwater's so excited -- he tells us, "The more people are supportive of this cause, I think it's only going to be helpful in making gay marriage legal in as many places as possible."

RD2, I can tell it's been a long time since you have looked at comic books. :flower:

The level of gratuitous violence and scantily clad, outrageously proportioned female characters has left me with my eyes rolling for years.

And don't even get started on Japanese mangas. They are awful.

I'm not into boycotting as I do not believe boycotting works at all.

What I do believe is that parents should be EXPERTS in the fields of interest of their children - books, comic books, video games, music, TV shows, movies, friends, girl-boy friends, and more. They should know inside and out just exactly what's going in the lives of the children and teach their children to have Godly values and teach them by giving them opportunities to make moral choices on their own.

Scarlett,

Why don't boycotts work? I'll not ever let my grandchildren look at DC comics. I don't shop JC Penny any more as some of my friends have also vowed to do the same. It may not close them down but at least I know my money isn't promoting homosexual indoctrination.

A boycott might work to stop a Christian company from doing something like this, but you can't stop the world from being the world.

I believe that personal boycotts are fine. I don't believe that organized boycotts do any good at all, but only bring free advertising to the businesses boycotted. Controversy between Christians and immoral secular industry almost always favors the immoral industry. They always seem to benefit.

Wonder how many professing Christians will boycott the Facebook product that's making billionaires of the co-founders.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/05/30/tech/keen-technology-facebook-privacy/index.html
(CNN) -- The news last week was all about Facebook's dodgy IPO. Investors are filing suit against Facebook about withholding "negative" assessment on its business prospects. This IPO not only "Zucked up" Silicon Valley's supposed tech bubble, but it has created the suspicion that Facebook willfully exploited the innocence of the small investor.

But something even dodgier than a potential stock market fraud is going on. The social network is taking something much more important than money from its nearly one billion members. By sabotaging what it really means to be human, Facebook is stealing the innocence of our inner lives.

Facebook Hit with Lawsuit Alleging Privacy Wrongs

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Facebook seeking $15 billion in damages, or $10,000 per member, for violating the privacy of its members, according to the complaint.

The action filed in federal district court in California combines 21 cases filed across the United States and alleges the social network violated its members' privacy rights by tracking them even after they logged out of their Facebook accounts.

Wonder how many Baptists will forgo their Facebook accounts, considering the various items posted above that were the results of a few minutes with the Yahoo search engine?

Boycott??

In order to boycott something (quit buying it), you have to be buying it in the first place. We could contact Marvel and tell them what we think, but would it do any good? Would they even care if a few people are offended enough to write to them?

As someone here said, it's just lost people acting lost. They see no such thing as "sin", "right and wrong"; nor do they care what God thinks, if they even believe in Him.

We've had the "If it feels good, do it" generation. We've had the "It's only sin if you think it is" generation.

Now we've got the "There's no such thing as sin" generation. This nation (the US) is gradually sliding down to where there will be no such thing as feeling guilty over anything. I've often heard or read, "It's my life, and I'll live it any way I choose. NO one has the right to set a moral standard for me." That, of course, includes God Who most people (despite claiming to be Christians) are saying, "We will not have God to reign over us."

How much longer before God puts a halt to everything and says, "It is enough! I will no longer tolerate My name being taken in vain, evil being called good and good being called evil, and My word, My people, my commandment to love one another trampled in the dirt!"

"Even so, come, Lord Jesus."

Well, I won't buy, nor will I suggest someone buy the products. Having said that, I agree that this is truly the product of a lost world, and this is but one of the many symptoms that are out there.

The Christian community needs to be part of this social community as much as anyone else. We need to stand up for right and wrong, we need to vote, we need to be on city counsels, state and federal governments and work to have as much influence as we can.

This idea being portrayed on this thread and others that somehow we need to leave the lost world alone, go hide in a cave, and only come out of the dark for a few minutes to share the gospel is absurd.

Saying lost people will be lost people does not answer any questions, does not resolve anything, and does not give any counsel on how we as Christians should engage the world.

[SIZE=+0]I think many lose sight of the truth about things like this and then use that darkness as an excuse to continue to support and feed their own lusts.
Boycotting a company or product is not done simply because it will or will not shut them down. It is done because we who stand for righteousness do not want to be partakers in their growth helping them spread unrighteousness by spending our money with them and if the boycott changes their values or shuts them down that is icing on the cake. It is saying we are willing to limit our options so we are not partakers with those who actively spread evil.

We engage them with what we believe, the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Boycotts do not do that. Boycotts simply distract the world into thinking that we only want them to have good morals.

Good morals are evil?

Never said that. But having good morals without the gospel is pointless. Our responsibility as believers is not to preach good morals to people. Our responsibility is to preach the gospel. Too often we confuse the two. We try to clean up the world with things like boycotts instead of proclaiming the gospel.

Preaching the gospel is not our only responsibility. That attitude is why this nation is falling apart today and sin is running wild in our land and churches. In a free country as ours that is based on the free market we have a responsibility as Christians to make sure that the market place is not pandering to the moral decay of the country we live in. Boycotting these companies instead of helping the spread moral decay is the proper thing to do.

The moral decay of the NT world was every bit as rampant as today if not more so. Yet what do we see in the NT? We see the apostles turning the world upside down with the Gospel. Believers should live with good morals, but we are not to try and clean people and the world up void of the Gospel. We are not to work to see unbelievers live with good morals. We are to work to see unbelievers trust in Christ, and then their morals will follow.

This is not about trying to change another's morals, but keeping them from spreading them around from the help of our money.
