No, he's wrong.
Let me explain what you are hearing. There is a sect of people who cannot accept the fact that the KJV is the only English version that is correct. They have arguments, but they are neither backed by scripture nor are they backed by logic.
They are called KJVO (King James Version Only).
They will tell you that the KJV is the only Word of God in the English language.
They vary in the doctrine in several levels:
1. The deepest KJVO doctrine is that the King James Version is Inspired by God just as the Original Writings were. Some even believe the KJV "Corrected" some of the old manuscripts, through inspiration of the translators.
2. A weaker, but an opinion with the same result would be that the Old manuscripts used in the KJV were more accurate than newly found "OLDER" manuscripts, a few found in Alexandria (an evil country

) but most printed by Jews that were of the diaspora group. The group that left their homeland to seek refuge from the Roman empire. They were just as sacred with their scriptures as other Jews. Because most modern translations use a combination of manuscripts that have been put together through textual-criticism to find out which ones appear to be the closest to the originals, they say the Bible manuscripts have been changed. Some even say they come from the anti-christ. Or are the precursor to the anti-christ. They blame non-Christians for compiling these into one main manuscript compilation (to keep from going into depth). The problem here is that the manuscripts used by the KJV were also put together by a Catholic.
3. There are those that just feel the KJV is a better translation for any number of reasons, but they can accept the MV's, but they prefer the KJV. These I do not have a problem with.
Summary:
a) There is no Biblical foundation that God would keep his word in English as the ONLY Word of God.
b) The King James version was translated by Anglicans from the church of England, who persecuted protestants. They produced what is called an Authorized Version. This simply means that only certain PRINTERS were authorized to print it. It was like a copyright, but it was upon order from the king. This was broken by Americans who printed it without permission around the time our country claimed independence from England.
C) The King James version was translated in 1611, has had up to 100 revisions (or versions) they call them "editions" or something else to keep it a secret that many elements have been corrected, upgraded and changed.
D) The KJV is written in a beautiful poetic language, but it is simply difficult to read because there are many words that simply do not mean the same as they did years ago.
E) We do NOT believe that all modern translations are going to be accurate. But, the mainstream Bibles are: NASB, NIV, ESV, NKJV, Holman Christian Standard, etc.
F) They will point out how many words are missing or changed. Well, many words have appeared on documents copied by hand before the printing press because well meaning copiers would add a word here and there for clarification or to make a passage stronger. These were not the original inspired words, but again, they do not change doctrine and the Word of God survives in many translations.
G) They will say doctrine changes. It doesn't.
H) They say that you can get saved with an NIV, but it is inferior. So, my remark was that maybe a person saved with an NIV only gets to stay in heaven's basement.
I) Finally, and this is not all, by a longshot: They say that an MV (Modern Version) are anti-christ, demonic, etc. I find this hard to believe if you can use one to bring a person to Jesus Christ.
Please, feel free to ask more questions. You can see the perpetuation of the myth of KJVO as we continue. The KJVO's sometimes resort (I'm not saying us MVers are perfect) to personal attacks when they cannot give us an answer for our questions. They will say something to the effect that "Bible believers are just convicted and passionate about their beliefs." Thus, indicating that they are the only Bible believers because we believe in a "non-bible".
Finally, I do question, as another person did: Why would an evangelist be preaching on the correct version of the Bible when his message is the saving grace of Jesus Christ?
I hope this helps and feel free to ask questions. At least you will get answers from us. Read my post on what we MVers believe in another subject thread under Bible Version debates. They will try to make you believe we do not like the KJV, when we believe it is a good translation, too.
