The only other current English BV available to Burgon was the RV.(Not counting all the minor editions made in the USA & elsewhere, which are essentially KJVs) He was gone before the present popular MVs were made. Therefore we can only speculate on what his opinion would be of any of them.

However, he vehemently disagreed with some of the work of Westcott & Hort, and this is what many a KJVO feeds upon. In the same manner as false preachers, they pick and choose from Burgon's work the material which seems to support their myth, while conveniently ignoring that which is contrary to their myth.

This is not the first time that I have joined the board, I have been associated with it in years past, and fully understand your frustration. But, I take you back to one of your questions, who has been helped? I assure you that if they are allowed to chase off all fundamental voices no one will be. Not that I would advocate spending much time arguing on here, there are souls to be won. None-the-less someone may read your defense of the truth and get it. You can not help it if some minds are closed to the truth. Let's be honest if as one accused you or us of believing that God waited 1611 years to give us a Bible, they have not been honestly listening to what we have been saying. And really in the end why do you care what they think? After all look at their flawed logic. According to the common argument of our day God gave us His word in the original autographs and then we Christians lost it for Him. But thanks to modern biblical scholarship being on their toes we are in the process of regaining our access to the word of God. So I guess according to this argument we ought to be on our knees thanking our friends on the board for enlightening us poor ignorant folk who blindly believed God when He said that He inspired,and promised to preserve His word for us.To think I have now believed Romans 10:17 for some nearly twenty years now. Of course I realize this does not compare with the 50 plus years teaching experience of some of our friends, and thus we should learn all we can from them while we can for surely all wisdom shall die with them,(Job 12:2). The one I really feel sorry for is God, to imagin He so blindly trusted us with His word and we let Him down.(This is where you will need to break out the smelling salts to revive those who have passed out from hearing me just blaspheme).Then you have to feel sorry for our friends who accuse our God of taking 1611 years to produce our Bible and theirs has taken 6000 plus years and they have not gotten it yet.
On a serious note and in closing, let me say do not allow the opinions of a few people discourage you. Take comfort in the knowledge that your God will not fail in any of the promises He has made to you in His Holy Writ, it is settled (Ps 119:89). And before you pillow your head in the peace of knowing your God and the word He has given are true and faithful, pray for those who's sleep must surely be broken when they do not yet know fully what parts of their bibles are settled and sure.

Including the Church of England... while it was producing the KJV and enforcing its adoption as the standard Bible for the kingdom.

KJVOnlyism is not fundamental. There is not a single verse of scripture that establishes that false doctrine. The original fundamentalists and those true fundamentalists since have taken a courageous stand for scriptural truth... and they used or acknowledged Bible versions besides the KJV.

I am not. Show me the proof of this truth and I will change my position immediately. Show me scripture or a historical proof that is consistent in its logic and I will be glad to accept it. But scripture commands that we prove all things and hold fast to that which is true. No one has provided proof for KJVOnlyism and the Bible doesn't declare it... therefore I reject it.

This is a false statement. That is not what is commonly argued here. We argue that the words of the originals were not perfectly preserved by copyists. This can be verified by the Greek mss of the NT... none of them are identical.

No one here argues that God's Word has been lost. The "Word" is what God revealed in the originals. The evidence is that the Word has never been lost in spite of human fallibility in copying or translating.

Not necessary at all. You should simply recognize that even your false doctrine must admit that God preserved His Word in something other than the KJV prior to 1611. No other mss or Bible prior to that date was exactly like it.

So, following your logic, either God failed to preserve His Word prior to 1611 or else your understanding of preservation is incorrect? I vote the latter.

What was the perfect Bible prior to 1611? Please show the direct line of perfection linking the originals to the KJV. Please show that the KJV is identical to the originals... especially when it differs in a few places from all known Greek mss... in a few places due to the use of dynamic equivalency... God forbid.

When God says it, I WILL BELIEVE IT! I am by no means impressed by what you or even MV advocates say. The truth is the truth and the truth can be demonstrated by proof.

By definition, the truth cannot be contrary to fact therefore KJVOnlyism cannot be true. How's that for logic?

I like to think I am. (A good Christian)
And for the KJVOs, There good Christians in those too. I have a dear elderly friend that is a deacon, that is die-hard KJVO. He is as close to the Lord as anyone can be. We disagree about the "only stuff", but work together to build Christ's kingdom.
The only exception I make, and I believe I can back this up with the Bible (KJV at that), are the type of KJVO that says that you must use a KJV to be saved. That is adding works to salvation and then becomes a false doctrine.

My point to K4H is simply there are great saints on both sides of the issue. I still have friends from the IFB fellowship that he now belongs to. Great preachers that I still call from time to time for advice.
You and I disagree, but I'd have no problem sitting under your preaching (unless of course it would be about the use of other versions).

A good ol' Baptist message would be appreciated any time.

If we want Bible for whether there ARE ANY "good" Christians , well...many verses that help us Christians get back in line. Try a few on yourself, like "thinkest no ill, vaunteth not itself"

Have you read the title to the thread? or is this entire forum about where the scriptures are that support KJVO? Obviously so.

Try Genesis 1:1 through Revelation 22:21 all over again, it will help if you stay with the KJB, though, it will!

I'm NOT a "good" Christian, and Kids4 Him is right, "It's just about time" (Title to this thread for those of you who didn't know)

Then you'd do wel to sit under my preaching when the Lord is in control. I don't preach the "versions" issue, I only preach Christ and Him crucified, and torment the hell out of those who think themselves "good". You know, those who are supposed to be crucified with Christ? Those who know there is ONLY One that is Good!
