Jack Moorman's credentials?

I can't seem to be able to find anything about Jack Moorman online regarding his education. I know that a family in our church became KJVO after reading his book but I want to know if he is a valid Biblical scholar or if he's like Gail Riplinger with a degree in interior design. :)

According to KJV-only author David Cloud, Jack A. Moorman (1941- )
"graduated from Tennessee Temple Bible College in the 1960's and traveled to South Africa to begin a missionary church-planting ministry. He was there from 1968-88, counting two years he lived in England during that time" (For Love of the Bible, p. 266). David Cloud wrote: "In 1988 they moved to England" (Ibid.)

I thought I knew the name. He is quite an icon for the KJVO guys on both islands over here. I have his book and have read it.

So it seems he has no Bible translation/textual criticism education at all. Interesting.

I am a bit surprised that he is even being discussed here. Only a tiny segment of pastors, mostly US KJVO guys or their students even know about him.

Well, apparently we have some of his students as friends. :(

If you can't find his education that's a pretty good sign that there's something less than honest going on.

FWIW, I think he should be taken seriously if for no other reason than KJVO people are rare as hens teeth.

I'm listening to the debate between him and White (who has a bit of shaky educational background himself) and he's clearly a fundamentalist. He believes in dictation theory of inspiration so that is a pretty important first step.

Since KJVOs have no evidence to support their myth, a KJVO author must have a well-developed imagination to cause some people to believe they know what they're talking about.

But then KJVOs have made a poster boy outta Anglican Dean John Burgon, who, if he were here today would prolly order a KJVO off his porch in a trice.

Didn't he himself hold that that were some mistake sin the TR text used for Kjv, and would approve revising the Kjv if new amended greek text were used?

Would have approved say the NKJV?

We can only guess, since Burgon died before any newer version was out besides the RV, which is a rather groddy one, but he indeed pointed out just a few goofs he'd found in the latest TR revision, and woulda most likely welcomed an accurate modern English translation.

I once looked at a PDF of Jack's big book Forever Settled, then quit reading when I saw that he quotes Ruckman over and over as a "scholar."

This and other documents show a clear link between the Dean Burgon Society and Peter Ruckman's teachings. If the DBS (and Moorman in particular) wants to be taken seriously, they should openly disavow such respect for railer and heretic Ruckman.

Ruckman has no real proof for any of his railings, as think that he just took over the protests of others, and tried to make them more "legit"

And didn't Dean himself want to have the kjv "improved", as he found some problems within the TR texts used to translate it off from? So even he did not hold to the "perfect" Kjv?

And I suppose the "scholarship" that James White received at an online diploman mill (Columbia Evangelical) was so much better. It is funny that many of the "scholars" cited against the KJV graduated from Bob Jones University (and in Moorman's case, Tenn Temple where NORRIS [Logos] attended), but yet Ruckman's not a real scholar, but Custer is even though they graduated from the SAME COLLEGE and Ruckman has an earned PhD, Thd.

It tickles me to no end the double standards you fellas apply to "scholarship".

Or even better, the REAL scholars are the ones like White's friend Alan Kirschner and Mike Majewski who took A course from HARVARD of all places (where they teach the German Rationalism form of higher textual criticism developed by non Christians) and those type are the REAL scholars. Of course, a person that begins with the presupposition that the Bible is the word of God can't possibly be "scholarly" unless they get a $100,000 education from a man-approved secular university that specializes in casting doubt about not only ANY version of the Bible, but the very existence of God.

I'll take Peter Ruckman and Jack Moorman over any of your scholarship only fakes any day of the week.

No, John Burgon did NOT want the KJV improved and said so very specifically in his 'Revision Revised'.

And which book of Peter Ruckman's have you ever read. Have you ever read Ruckman's refutation of James White's book called "Scholarship Onlyism: Can You Trust the Professional Liars?". James White hasn't read it either. Ruckman also put out a response to James White's 7 'proof texts' against the KJV after White chickened out of the debate with Ruckman. White tried to spin the debate issue but refused to publish the last letters that Ruckman sent him. Ruckman was going to debate with less people and less time to respond then White would have, and Ruckman still agreed to it. White never responded back.

Now your excuse can be "Ruckman is a heretic, I wouldn't waste time in reading his book". Well that's what some of us think about you, and yet we read your recommendations anyway. I have read White's book several times. I have read D.A. Carson's book. I have read Rick Norris' 'Unbound Scriptures'. I have read the Quran. I have read the Book of Mormon. I have read the Bhagavad Gita. I have read the New World Translation of the "Holy Scriptures" by the Watchtower. I don't avoid a book simply because I know ahead of time that I disagree with the author. If you're going to call Ruckman a heretic on the KJV, then read his book first and prove it instead of quoting what someone else said about him from another website.

would say that since we do not have the originals, and ONLY they were inerrant and perfect in all details, that there is no legimate biblical basis for either the TR being the best/perfect greek text available to us, nor the Kjv being a perfect translation to us, as the basis of it is to some degree has errors in it!

that is the same for ALL english versions, as ALL ahve immperfect textual basis as compared to originals, so all translations to us available are to some degree" not perfect!"

ALl we need is an infallible Bible though, and we have them!
