Well...the Church of Wells puts a picture of both Wesley and Spurgeon (along with others) at the top of their website; and the first thing listed is open-air preaching...so you tell us: cult or legit?

Considering what just happened in Charleston, this probably wasn't the smartest way to protest.

And what was the point? To say "shame on you Joel"?

He may not be deep as you like, but he's legit.

That statement makes me wonder about your being legit, brother. And Joel has bigger fish to fry at judgment, if he doesn't have a "come to Jesus moment!" He recently endorsed what the supreme court just backed, and from a preacher's mouth, that is totally unacceptable. I am waiting for him to light up his church in the rainbow colors. :tear: :tear: :tear:

Saw a resume for a potential pastor; he included a statement that he had once driven 170 miles so he could tell Joel Osteen to his face "you're a moron."

He didn't get the job.

Reading these guys' website, yes, that's why they were there.

The church of the wells sound familiar? Cult/false church or legit?

It just takes mere seconds to google.

http://www.thechurchofwells.com/

They are KJVO.

Now let me ask this. How effective do you think their heckling was? Do I think Joel Osteen needs heckling? No, I think he needs counseling/teaching about what a pastor is supposed to be preaching.

The Osteen church member who gave testimony as to the heckling - he said that he was frightened by them and was so glad the church security was there.

That "heckling" did nothing to win anyone for Jesus and it did nothing to sway anyone from the teaching of Joel Osteen. It just put a legitimate fear into the people and made them want to get under the wing of Osteen and his security.

It just pushed his congregants further into the trust of Osteen.

I do not care for Osteen's ministry but this was inappropriate, unnecessary, and unChristian. It only worked to give the Kingdom of God a bad name. There was no discerning thought process that could lead up to something like this only emotionalism. This should be soundly condemned by all Christians.

I do not know enough about the church to determine if they are legit. But if their activity at the Osteen event was church sanctioned, then they do not adhere to sound doctrine when it comes to dealing with false teachers. They would do well to read Paul's words to the church in Philippi. We, as a church and as a whole, are often too easily distracted from what we should be doing.

It appears that the group of hecklers are from a cult-esque church and they decided to spend their Sunday going after Joel...well they spent ten minutes going after Joel and the rest of the day posting bond.

Their goal wasn't to actually confront Joel but to simply cause a scene.

So, instead of going about confrontation in a biblical manner they chose to make a scene. Sometimes civil disobedience has a point, much like in SC this past weekend, but this, well this was just plain foolishness.

Why is that even relevant?

Their "Manifesto" concludes: "Wrest not these words, or fail to properly consider through unlearned questions, but pray if haply God would reveal to thee, our reader, the crucial hour in which we stand, and make you a standard bearer with us in this the cause of our Great God, and Chief Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ. Now may God Almighty add his blessing to the above declarations, send peace again in Jerusalem, and conduct all of his people safe into their desired haven, His eternal kingdom."

KJVO is the least of their issues in communicating the gospel.

I will say this much, their manifesto, I scanned through some of it and read other portions, and their statement of faith, seem very solid. Although the KJVO is quite unsettling. :( :-/
