For example, if an officer mistakenly shoots a young man (say confusing her gun for a tazer) that officer would most likely receive a sentence. What is "just" (other than following the system of laws)?

In this particular case - she did threaten a tazer - but he slid back into the truck - and he very eaisly have had a gun that he was going
to shoot at her.......

When people resist arrest - well, all bets are off.

I disagree. Resisting arrest is not a reason to kill someone.

but - and this is a big But- it appeared he might have been reaching for a weapon. and in those situation - you do not have time
to wait......
