If we heard of a man in a third world country, race does not matter, who was choked to death while being arrested for selling cigarettes and the policeman was let off free ... what would our reaction be to that story?

I would say it was probably a mischaracterization just as it is to describe it that way about recent events in NY.

Did you watch the video. There was no threatening move by this poor man.

1. He was not killed for selling cigarettes.

2. He was being arrested for illegally selling cigarettes.

3. He created the situation by resisting arrest.

To say he was killed for selling cigarettes is just plain dishonest.

However the law that this guy broke in selling cigarettes illegally was stupid.

This guy was trying to make a few pennies and ended up dead and yet bankers have taken millions from people [remember the disaster in 2008] and not one was arrested for malpractice ... much less killed.

Yet the white privilege, GOP sponsored narrative is that everything would have been okay if he'd just complied with the officers. SMH.

How many of those guys have they walked up to and placed in chokeholds?

Good point ... everyone seems to forget that the man had nine prior arrests for selling cigarettes, so he KNEW he was breaking the law. This sounds vaguely familiar ... five million illegal immigrants will not worry about deportation for the next three years. They seem to think they did nothing wrong and that this is the least that was owed to them by their host country.

Both the illegals and Garner knew the laws, BUT cried foul when law enforcement tried to hold them responsible. We live in a progressively lawless society. And no one is willing to enforce our laws, starting with the community organizer in the WH.

If Garner would have followed the laws he grew to disrespect, and got a real job, he'd be alive today.IMHO.

It would be terrible. But nobody was choked to death in this instance.

Will the drama never end? :BangHead:

So you're okay with people doing illegal things to make extra money? I doubt he was only doing it for a few pennies.

Don't believe I said that ... but selling unpacked illegal cigarettes is not an offense that should bring about deatyh.

To other who crow he died of a heart attack. Don't you think being taken down while being choked might have something to do with the onset of the heart attack. It is rather like saying, "That person didn't die of cancer, they died of infection", not mentioning that the infection was brought on by the cancer. Medically no one dies of cancer, they die of a side effect of the cancer, infection, bleeding to death, not being able to breath, pneumonia. God some folk with fuzzy logic on the board.

Selling unpacked illegal cigarettes is illegal. He was selling cigarettes illegally. You said all he was trying to do was make some extra pennies doing so.

I agree selling cigarettes or anything else illegally should not bring about death, but that was not the reason he died.
