Interesting that this hasn't been brought up yet....
It seems the two events are related. N. Korea can develop Nukes and feels it can push its weight around more. I was ridiculed when I said this could happen during conversations about the sunk ship. Maybe its a bid for more food but we'll see what happens. The North's posturing over the past several years has put a lot of distance between them and their only friends, the Chinese.
With their bold act of war last night (and when they sunk that S. Korean naval vessel) they've act brashly. At this point I really believe the South has fueled the planes and is ready to carpet bomb the North into oblivion. They've been repeatedly attacked by the North over the last several years and their patience is through.
I can't imagine that China would back North Korea defensively outside of offering to honor existing weapons contracts. Should be interesting to see how fast this escalates.
As a point germane to the topic, I don't know if any of you have been paying attention because of the media oversight on the matter but last week a US led nuclear commission observed hundreds of active nuclear centrifuges in North Korea. This is HUGE and the timing of their attack is way too close to this event. To say the region is on alert is an understatement.
The part that's most interesting is watching the "big boys"; i.e., China and the U.S.
If either act in favor of one side or the other, then the other one is practically obligated to respond in some fashion. From there, how will Russia react? What about the other major world players? This has the potential for polarization that G.W. Bush's "Axis of Terror" almost had. Remember: WWII didn't start as a war between multiple countries; it escalated into a world war.
If either S.Korea or N.Korea use nukes, then violations of the nuke treaties have to be considered.
It's going to be an interesting week.
Have you calculated the radioactive fallout patterns?
Nope! that is simply a result of war.
So, you were serious about nuking them out of existence? I guess you don't care at all about the civilians?
First you do not understand much about the north. From their birth they are all taught to be a military people. So it is not about not caring about them. It is about caring for those who they would harm. In WW2 we bombed the civilians in Japan and it was justified. In my opinion it would be justified with North Korea to stop their constant push that could start a 3rd world war. So yes if it were my call I would nuke them all out of existence to keep our causalities and our allies at a minimum.

That's pathetic, especially coming from a Christian. I'm going to pray for you. You have an abnormal disregard for human life.
Horrendous! Do you realize that there are about 24 million citizens barely existing in North Korea? They're starving. They are in a pathetic situation. There are probably a lot more Christians there than you might believe also.
The population is not the regime. Please note the distinction. There are about 200,000 who living in Pyongyang with a more privileged life than the general populace.
I care about North Koreans --especially their need of the Gospel. I don't want to nuke them out of existence! How can you say such vile things?!
“This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.'"
