President Obama doubled down Thursday on his strategy for confronting terrorism, one that increasingly speaks of long-term social solutions, but that seems to go out of its way to stop short of addressing the more immediate challenge: how to stop the barbaric onslaught and spread of the Islamic State and other Islamic radical groups.

Declaring, "We are not at war with Islam," Obama capped his White House summit on "violent extremism" with a repeat of his message that the international community needs to address economic and political "grievances" that terrorists exploit.

Obama acknowledged the "unspeakable cruelty" inflicted by the Islamic State and said countries must be "unwavering" in fighting these organizations. But he underscored the importance of improving political systems, boosting economies and making impoverished and desperate communities less susceptible to terror recruiters -- echoing a comment from a State Department official this week that jobs-creation programs could be an effective counterterrorism tool.

He offered no hint, however, that the summit had produced a clear, unified and immediate global strategy to ultimately defeat the Islamic State -- instead issuing the declaration to the Islamic world that, "We are not at war with Islam."

I did not vote for Obama either time, but a few observations are in order. No one seems to admit voting for him, yet he won a substantial victory not once but twice. If you in fact did not vote for Obama, you voted for a liberal Republican in 2008 and voted for a cult member that is liberal in 2012. Obama got 36% of the vote in the state I vote in, what about yours? What did you do to effect the nomination of a conservative Republican in 2008 and 2012?

Another point, everyone of you are going to harp on Obama until the day he is out of office. He has less than two years left. You are going to harp on him so long you will do nothing to ensure a true Republican is nominated in 2016 and will wake up November 2016 one morning and wonder why another Democrat was elected. And the beat goes on. For those of you that think there is an ounce of difference between the present state of the Democrats and Republicans, get your heads out of the sand.

If you want an accurate measure, read the Constitution and compare the two parties. You will see a gap. Better yet, compare the two parties to a Holy God and you will see a very wide gap.

Our criticism would be the same if he were white, Hispanic, or green with purple stripes. You have no answer for our arguments, so you play the race card. I don't think your idea has any merit. What were we supposed to do --vote for Obama? There wern't many options. By the way, Romney was and is, a much better candidate than McCain.

So what did you do to ensure a conservative nominee those years? Answer, probably nothing but post on the internet. Mitt by the way was a terrible candidate. Look at his record while governor of MA on abortion, gay rights, gun control, and government run health care. You will see they are exactly like Obama's now. If he was that good of a candidate, he would have won, wouldn't he?

Well I will be glad to answer your questions, but don't know who Tad is. In 2008 I voted for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party. In 2012 I was a delegate to their Presidential nominating convention and voted for Virgil Goode.

Totally agree with this thought, but don't count on the Rs fulfilling your dream.

IMHO there are a few that could fill the bill, but the closer one comes to being a "TRUE CONSERVATIVE", the more the establishment Rs are gonna ambush him. The last two POTUS elections speak to this fact.

I am almost to the point that I feel the Rs are so confident that conservatives will vote "R" that they have no incentive to offer up anybody other than a RINO. (Seems sometimes that they (Rs) want to guarantee that a D will win, based on their choice of candidate.)

Again, IMHO, to continue to vote R after we've seen their idea of a "conservative" candidate in '08 & '12 is just proving them right.
