Many have criticized my writing of letters to false churches. Well then let's have you write one. I will also include some tracts but the letter is what will get read and the tracts may be tossed without ever being read so it's important to write a winning letter.

Actually, it isn't just the writing of the letters it is 'look me' posts about them - your avatar reads 'evangelist6589' - I would to hear you talking about Jesus Christ a lot more, and yourself a little less :)

No commentaries? Study books? Study bibles? Just the Bible without any aide on interpretation?
Yes, Evan, “just” the Bible. Just the Word of God. There are some who hold the Bible in such a high regard that they would prefer to use it for corporate study rather than commentaries and books. Commentaries have their place, of course, but they are designed to be commentaries (not supplements to but commentaries on Scripture).

When I look at many today I can’t help but see a self-inflicted state of biblical ignorance fostered out of spiritual laziness. So many seem to want a book to tell them what to believe so as not to be burdened by the work Scripture demands. Some seem to look to books in order to justify their own lives. Sometimes people choose a couple of pastors or authors to believe. When these authors conflict, they just choose the one that best suits them.

So when I look to an adult study, I stick with just the Bible. Although it does not always suit my own desires, I find it sufficient. The determining factor is the reason we study. Do we study in order to justify our desires and actions (e.g., divorcing a spouse, forwarding our agenda, sexual immorality, drinking, gambling…and such) or do we study to be changed and become more and more like Christ?

Actually, one of my pet peeves is in SS - the teacher and student will put their Bibles under the Chair and solely use the SS quarterly!

Now, I enjoy using the quarterlys - but they are ONLY a supplement.

I've noticed the same thing. I would prefer such materials be something to take home and supplement personal study and devotion (if necessary) and the group come together to study Scripture and not the supplements themselves.

Just realized - we have gotten way off - OP

Evans OP stated: "

and now back to the OP

and now back to the OP

I have written letters on a couple of occasions, to popular talk show hosts. I have also written open letters I have posted on a forum, more for the benefit of members of the forum, rather than thinking those addressed will actually respond (they won't, you know, lol).

I might suggest to the OP, that when you write a letter, perhaps post it on the forum for critique, as this might help you in these endeavors. That is one thing we should accomplish when we gather, that we learn from one another, and look to our brothers and sisters to point out faults that we are made better in evangelical efforts, rather than simply trying to tear each other down all the time.

God bless.

I have done this but I am wasting my time as the posters here are largely against writing letters so it's useless.
