I found this link:Can you provide a link to the article written by MLK that supports this?
"The Humanity and Divinity of Jesus"
Here MLK argues against the "orthodox" doctrine that Jesus was inherently divine, but that He "became" divine because of His unity and reliance upon God. MLK adopted this view, totally unbiblical, because we (humans) could use it to justify not living up to His example. (Consider the Governor of California justifying his hypocrisy because we are unable to mirror Christ.)
So, did our very human Jesus grow in His unity with God. Of course, consider asking to pass the cup, then later after prayer, desiring to take the cup. And it is this aspect of our understanding of Christ, that cuts against orthodoxy. Are we not to strive to become more Christ-like? He is our example, and so we should not dismiss His sinless life, as something we should not strive for too.
Perhaps MLK held some bogus doctrines, but like Calvinists, we should not declare they do not love Jesus and are not part of the family of God.
