Kathryn - Thank you for explaining that to me, I'm not even a Catholic and I was horrified when my sister (the Baptist) told me that. She must have misunderstood my other sister.

LaRae, Thanks too. I am willing to guess that my sis misunderstood this part too. They kind of "go at" each other in matters of faith (kind of like this board at times

Catholics worship God alone, so I don't relate to the prayer you keep posting.
Here is a well-known Catholic prayer that is special to me:

O my God, I love you above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because you are all good and worthy of all my love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me and I ask pardon of all whom I have injured.

You highlight "spirit" and declare that this means symbolic.

If this is so, then either:

1) Not all of Jesus' words are spirit and life, only those which he means symbolically, or

2) All of Jesus' words, which are spirit and life, are symbolic.

So, because you insist that His words are "spirit" and that makes what he says "a type," which is it: 1 or 2?

Can I have the address of your mother and father? I want to write them a letter and tell them that you do not honor them nor have any special devotion to them.

I mean, this must be the case, since you repent of honoring (the definition of venerate) and being devoted to people. God frowns on honoring people and being devoted to them, after all, right?

Oh, and how about the address of the cemetary where your deceased loves ones were buried. We need to make sure that because they have died, that their tombstones read that you no longer honor them or hold special places for them in your heart.

I hope you see how ridiculous your supporting of some of the stuff you're posting is.

NO!! It is a type.

How many disciples left Jesus when He spoke these words? Now, how many left Him in John 6? Obviously they detected the difference, even though you don't.

Further, Christ did not institute a rite of passing through a doorway at the Last Supper for us to remember Him by, and for us to join in His One Sacrifice.

I find, even with my Baptist hat on, this to be a ridiculous statement than can only come from a person who has no logic or well thought out reasonings, but only anger or agenda as their guide.

Mary was an ORDINARY woman? But...was given the PRIVILEGE, are we actually saying this?...of being the MOTHER of Jesus, the INCARNATE WORD, EMMANUEL, GOD WITH US, the SAVIOR of mankind. How beyond all reason to any Christian, would being the Mother or Jesus be ordinary? Imagine the most extroidinary person you have ever met in relation to being Christ like. Imagine Mary greater than this. When God chose the vessel for a sinless Christ, did he not consecrate that vessel? Or did He place sinlessness into filth? Did God not even do what He asked those in the Old Testament to do to vessels housing God?

I awoke at 5:30 this morning, ground some Starbucks coffee, read some Scripture, warmed up the car amid the snow and drove to the chapel on campus where about a hundred college students were praying silently. Father Stan - my favorite preacher on campus - celebrated the Divine Liturgy. I saw Jesus, I received Jesus, and as Jesus begged me to return his gift of love in the Eucharist by submitting myself to his reign today, I loved my king.

[above] Fr. Stan preaching to us when we were on mission in Honduras where we evangelized and administered Baptism and the Eucharist throughout the Diocese of Trujillo.

What is extroidinary is God use ordinary to do extroidinary things.

Go ahead and change your position. I'll just turn my head and pretend like I didn't notice.

Your basis for saying that Jesus was speaking symbolically in John chapter 6 was because He said His words were (and you bolded it for us) "spirit."

Therefore, the only thing you could possibly have been saying is that WHEN JESUS SPEAKS WORDS OF "SPIRIT," HE IS SPEAKING SYMBOLICALLY.

Therefore, the ONLY choices you have are what I posted as 1 and 2. Your own number three has ZERO evidence to support it. You tell me that Jesus was speaking symbolically (and give me a symbolic statement that is in a different sermon given by Jesus) and say: "See, He was speaking symbolically there so He must be being symbolically here too!" That doesn't work at all. Because He did it once doesn't mean everything is the same.

AGAIN, ignore it if you wish, but your original stance was that by speaking words that are "spirit," He meant symbolically. THUS, when Jesus speaks "in Spirit and truth" He is speaking symbolically and not literally, OR, Jesus only speaks "in spirit" when He speaks symbolically.

There is no logical way to get around it. Period.

This is not what DHK did at all. He said that Carson is a liar, that it is not Father Stan, and that he knows it. That's not a question, that's a statement, and it is one that he provided no evidence for. Perhaps he should verify his statement. Otherwise, his words are empty.

Could it be that Evangelicals respond to every Catholic remark that they don't like with a general denunciation of the Catholic Church, no matter how invalid or evidence-free their allegation is?
