A 40-year-old woman who family members said called 911 to report a possible assault in the alley behind her home Saturday night was fatally shot by a Minneapolis police officer.

The shooting happened at the end of the alley on W. 51st Street between Washburn and Xerxes avenues S. in the city’s Fulton neighborhood.

The woman, Justine Damond, from Sydney, Australia, and her fiancé lived in the 5000 block of Washburn.

Three sources with knowledge of the incident said Sunday that two officers in one squad car, responding to the 911 call, pulled into the alley. Damond, in her pajamas, went to the driver’s side door and was talking to the driver. The officer in the passenger seat pulled his gun and shot Damond through the driver’s side door, sources said. No weapon was found at the scene.

Noor, 31, joined the department in March 2015 as the first Somali police officer to patrol the 5th Precinct in southwest Minneapolis, according to a city newsletter. He holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from Augsburg College. Before joining the department, he worked in property management in commercial and residential properties in Minneapolis and St. Louis, Mo.

I can tell you this is a low-crime middle class neighborhood. I'm trying to think of a reason a policeman would shoot past his partner in the driver's seat and kill a woman standing just outside the car in her pajamas.

Odd. One thing I learned in my years on the force was that whatever the media reports will most often be between 50 and 100 % wrong. If it is accurate as reported, which I doubt it is, Muhommad should be doing some long, hard time.

Was this a planned murder of a witness? Witness for what?

I don't believe this Aussie woman (a white woman at that) was any kind of threat to law
enforcement, anti-gun or not.

And say for the sake of argument, Noor was acting in a terrorist manner here, he just
wanted to kill a white person because Allah told him to? Sound conspiratorial? Of
course, if you're a Caucasian living in the United States and you suspect or even say
aloud what you believe, you're a nut.

Who cares? I profile all Muslims in my community and the nation at large. I'm not a
law enforcement or other public official acting under color of law. I can profile all I want.

As long as the mainstream media calls it just another stupid trigger-happy cop, then
everyone's fine with that version. As long as the NAACP and BLM are going to protect

Sounds like a rookie mistake, possibly from being rushed through training and sadly resulted in ruining one person's life and likely his own as well.

For errors in the medical and aviation worlds, the Swiss Cheese Model of accident causation is a useful one to consider in that there are often multiple layers of systemic safeguards that had to line up for a significant error to happen, which doesn't minimize Noor's responsibility but helps to consider what systemic issues may need to be addressed to prevent future incidents.

By prior agreement (long before this incident), the investigation is being conducted at the State level, not the city PD. All we can hope for is that the extensive interviews will ferret out the truth and that justice be done after that. Most anything we post here is conjecture. For all I know, it was accidental discharge by someone who probably shouldn't even have drawn the weapon - pure conjecture.

You indicated in an earlier post that you were (or still are) in law enforcement.
Here's my question then: why isn't this information passed on to the media,
and if so, why aren't they broadcasting or printing this information? I know
law enforcement cannot dictate to the press as to what they can or cannot
put out there, but has anyone in law enforcement bothered to ask them why
they are not doing so?

If camera activation occurs when they exit the squad, and dash cams when
the emergency lights are activated, if that's the case, then who's to say the
individual cop isn't shutting off his camera? You can see how that theory
effects public perception.

So I take it to mean the MPD's, IAD Division won't be involved.
