Moderna reports ‘positive’ data on early-stage coronavirus vaccine trial

I fear that the government will force corporations to require the vaccine as a condition of employment and then force the employee to sign a paper absolving the corporation and the government of all risk and of all bad consequences. If they are able to develop a vaccine, I think that it would be the first one ever for a corona virus.

Yes, this is the first time there has been the interest and funding to see a coronavirus vaccine through to successful implementation.

I thought that people have said that there was no way to vaccinate against a virus. Why are we trying so hard to find a vaccine when no one in the world has ever been able to do it before? Shouldn't we be looking for more practical ways to cope?

Always remember, cmg, just because something hasn’t been done doesn’t mean it can’t be done.

It's all so complicated. I have confidence in American medical science. This cold spring here in Indiana is not doing much to get us back to normal. Usually, Indianapolis has a crowded calendar for the month of May for the Indy 500 race at Speedway, Indiana, but this year the month just seems to be dragging by with nothing interesting happening around town. Just rain, rain, rain.

Aren't current flu vaccines only 50% effective? Very concerned putting faith in this vaccine will lead to disappointment and more lockdowns.

The flu vaccine is 60% effective and also lessens the severity of it if one gets it. No one is afraid of the flu with that amount of effectiveness, so I see no reason why similar effectiveness wouldn’t be enough to stop the panic.

I hope you're right. I'm a moderate of vaccines. I believe in herd immunity which vaccines try to achieve. (I don't believe in forcing vaccines on all).

My fear is, we've never seen a vaccine kicked out this fast (if it's indeed out this year). That's very scary to me. And I would never want this given to children, being how there's no risk to them.

“Necessity is the mother of invention.”

Maybe, but we've been wrong about many things regarding this virus. Had we protected seniors in nursing homes from the beginning, it would have been much more mild.

Many seniors get flu shots, and they would likely get this shot as well. I'm fine with that.

The vast majority of us would not even be symptomatic getting this virus. No need for vaccine.

And, there also should be an antibody test before anyone receives the vaccine. No need to vaccinate someone who already has antibodies.

Also, are vaccines double-blind tested? I've heard conflicting reports.

What do you see as the source of the panic? We did not have panic like this during the Hong Kong flu and other waves of flu. My worry now is that we have shut down too much of our hospital and medical system and people cannot get the care that they need in other matters and rural hospitals are in jeopardy again as they were under Obama. Labor Unions seem to want the lockdown to continue because they will do very well with unemployment as their medical insurance goes for 4 months after layoff in some unions. I understand that unemployment now pays about $50k a year.

Trump and the Congress turned to quantitative easing just like Obama but the more the printing presses print money the more worthless it becomes. If money is the cause of the panic, why is the public so supportive of the lockdown in many areas?

There will be a second wave it is said but the cure rate is so high that there is little to fear from the virus except for people who have other medical problems.

I don't know what the cause of the panic is except that the CDC was so unprepared and was on a learn as you go basis.

What do you see as the source of the panic?

I knew we were in trouble on March 11 when pro sports shutdowns were falling like dominos, capped off by canceling the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. That to me was when then the country went into full panic mode.

Today, we now have California, New York, and Texas announcing that pro sports can start back up in 2 weeks. Sounds to me like the panic is now OVER!!!!
