After a long weekend of terrorist bombings on the east coast, the news is that many high school football teams are following Colin Kaepernick's lead and ignoring the National Anthem in protest against the murder of blacks by evil, cold and calculating killer cops!

http://learningandfinance.com/2016/09/17/garfield-high-school-football-team-takes-knee-during/

What are your thoughts on this growing protest, especially when it means that the life's and sacrifices of our soldiers in many wars and conflicts are being dissed by this unpatriotic display of unity? Would you personally support such a display against our nation's flag and the anthem? And is it really accomplishing anything other than making headlines? I think it is a fad that will pass, and when it does, like the black panther's fist raised symbol of the 60s, it will only serve to make the racial divide in America that much wider, and more difficult to cross!

They wouldn't know what "oppression" was if it bit them on the nose.

Kaepernick, in particular, has led a privileged life and never experienced oppression.

What are your thoughts on this growing protest?

Trivial nothingness.

Would you personally support such a display against our nation's flag and the anthem?

Absolutely not.

And is it really accomplishing anything other than making headlines?

Doubtful.

I think it is a fad that will pass, and when it does, like the black panther's fist raised symbol of the 60s, it will only serve to make the racial divide in America that much wider, and more difficult to cross!

How is this racial?

Monkey see, monkey do as they used to say, though putting this activity on the monkeys is probably way wrong.

Fads come and go.

We could just declare that all should kneel for the anthem and make the protestors do the standing. :)

This guy makes some good points:

Marine Colonel's Letter to NFL Commissioner

Commissioner,

I’ve been a season pass holder at Yankee Stadium, Yale Bowl and Giants Stadium.

I missed the ’90-’91 season because I was with a battalion of Marines in Desert Storm. 14 of my wonderful Marines returned home with the American Flag draped across their lifeless bodies. My last conversation with one of them, Sgt Garrett Mongrella, was about how our Giants were going to the Super Bowl. He never got to see it.

Many friends, Marines, and Special Forces Soldiers who worked with or for me through the years returned home with the American Flag draped over their coffins.

Now I watch multi-millionaire athletes who never did anything in their lives but play a game, disrespect what brave Americans fought and died for. They are essentially spitting in the faces and on the graves of real men, men who have actually done something for this country beside playing with a ball and believing they’re something special! They’re not! My Marines and Soldiers were!

You are complicit in this! You’ll fine players for large and small infractions but you lack the moral courage and respect for our nation and the fallen to put an immediate stop to this. Yes, I know, it’s their 1st Amendment right to behave in such a despicable manner.

What would happen if they came out and disrespected you or the refs publicly?

I observed a player getting a personal foul for twerking in the end zone after scoring. I guess that’s much worse than disrespecting the flag and our National Anthem. Hmmmmm, isn’t it his 1st Amendment right to express himself like an idiot in the end zone?

Why is taunting not allowed yet taunting America is OK? You fine players for wearing 9-11 commemorative shoes yet you allow scum on the sidelines to sit, kneel or pump their pathetic fist in the air. They are so deprived with their multi-million dollar contracts for playing a freaking game!

You condone it all by your refusal to act. You’re just as bad and disgusting as they are. I hope Americans boycott any sponsor who supports that rabble you call the NFL. I hope they turn off the TV when any team that allowed this disrespect to occur, without consequence, on the sidelines. I applaud those who have not.

Legends and heroes do NOT wear shoulder pads. They wear body armor and carry rifles.

They make minimum wage and spend months and years away from their families. They don’t do it for an hour on Sunday. They do it 24/7 often with lead, not footballs, coming in their direction. They watch their brothers carted off in pieces not on a gurney to get their knee iced. They don’t even have ice! Many don’t have legs or arms.

Some wear blue and risk their lives daily on the streets of America. They wear fire helmets and go upstairs into the fire rather than down to safety. On 9-11, hundreds vanished. They are the heroes.

I hope that your high paid protesting pretty boys and you look in that mirror when you shave tomorrow and see what you really are, legends in your own minds. You need to hit the road and take those worms with you!

Time to change the channel.

Spent all day yesterday watching the NFL, and the games I watched didn't talk about this at all, best outcome. I only remember the Star Spangled Banner being televised during the Super Bowl, maybe the playoffs. The fans in the stand ought to boo these tools, and that's what they are doing. But Kappy et al have gotten enough attention for this already, and the SF owner made a big mistake in tolerating these "protests". The NFL is for football, not BLM propaganda.

You have no idea what he's experienced unless you're admitting that white privilege actually does exist.

Right, that's why there are entire months dedicated to breast cancer awareness and pink this and pink that. If the NFL is just for football, then cut out the references to any other social issue.

It so happens, that the NFL owners recognize that part of the NFL is community and what's going on in the communities. Ignore that and they will really have a maelstrom on their hands especially when the majority of the players look like the unarmed folks being killed.

But this is what black people mean when they say that white people like to undervalue and marginalize the worth of black lives.

When it affects black lives, let's just play football.
When it's anyone else, let's see how we can accommodate it.

Why are people so obsessed about what others do? The people who are obsessed about the protests give the protests what power they have.

I don't care if they sit, stand, kneel, stand on their head... It's their business and it doesn't bother me that other people have different opinions than I do.

When I am at home watching a game and they broadcast the national anthem, I don't stand at attention. Does that mean I'm protesting? Nope.

I tend to agree with you ^, most NFL players are classic jocks, but we may be in the minority:

http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/nfl...bc-cbs-fox-espn-nfln-regular-season-playoffs/

ratings are down and that will make the NFL do a double-take. The pink for breast cancer awareness is one thing, overdone and too long but that's a health issue, not a political one.

The vast majority of both black and white NFL employees DID stand for the anthem, as they should have. Injuries are up, despite all the tweaking of the rules aimed at decreasing them. I think the main problem is Goodell, being paid 44M to run the NFL into the ground is 44M too much.

Killing folks isn't a political issue. It's very much a health issue.

Why should they?

Blah and blah and blah. There is nothing any more important about their lives than is the lives of the fathers and sons who have been murdered by police officers. If he feels disrespected by Kaepernick and others taking a knee, if he feels that his face has been spit in, then imagine how the wives and mothers and sisters and brothers of all the black men murdered by police officers feel when they can't even get prosecutors to press charges?

This is nothing but another variation of what Malcolm X said. Marine Colonel Jeffrey A Powers can't offset what Kaepernick has said. And if he feels disrespected by that, it's his choice.

He more so than most should be able to empathize, given what he said about the disrespect, about why Kaepernick said what he did.

Imagine another entire group of folks who feel like their lives are undervalued and marginalized.

If it's wrong to be obsessed with what others do, then let them raise their right fists of "Let's have a race riot!", let them salute the cameras on them with their middle fingers, let them give a nazi salute it they're inclined. It's their business.

Never mind that that stupid owner of the Cincinnati Reds, Marge Schott, sang the praises of Hitler and was fined and suspended by Major League Baseball. Never mind that the owner of the L.A. Clippers used racial epithets and lost control of the team. Never mind that Al Campanis and Jimmy the Greek said something probably true-- that during the slavery era blacks were bred for strong lower body strength-- and lost their positions for exercising their rights to free expression. We have just got to kill this muzzling of people. Let them say what they will!

Nice try. But folks making racist and racially prejudiced comments isn't the equivalent of what Kaepernick is doing.

Pure selective bias concerning 1st Amendment rights by the NFL commissioner which in truth is merely being used as an excuse to condone radical leftist globalist agendas and to be "politically correct." Shameful!

I take from this that you DO agree the NFL has the authority to fine, suspend, or ban those who express ideas the league does not like. Correct?

ed. "...the league does not like" or else challenges the image the league wishes to present for itself.

Well, this is what I mean, Goodell is letting this all get out of hand. Before the game last night between the Eagles and the Bears, three Eagle players went a step further and gave the black power salute:

51 Steven Means

27 Malcolm Jenkins

33 Ron Brooks

and then the Eagles went on to win big (thanks, megatard Cutler) in Soldier Field unfortunately. And ratings for that game were down again, Goodell needs to nip this in the bud because most football fans watch the games to watch football, not to see a bunch of spoiled athlete millionaires play SJW.
