According to what I'm seeing out of Israel, nothing changed with this speech. It wasn't for the Ayatollah or Putin.
It was primarily a speech to assure his conservative supporters in Israel. Netanyahu is first and foremost a politician and politicians worry most about the next election. Israel has an election coming up in about a month.
Netanyahu is the man who in 1993 prophesied that Iran would attack Israel before 1999. He has used "They are about to get the bomb" for at least 20 years, not because he believes it, but to use fear to help win elections.
"The most dangerous threat to Israel's existence does not lie in the Arab countries – but in Iran," then-MK Benjamin Netanyahu wrote in a Yedioth Ahronoth column in February 1993.
"The rulers of Iran have said repeatedly that they will have an Islamic bomb and that its first target is Israel," he argued in a piece titled "The greatest danger," claiming that Iran will develop its first nuclear bomb by 1999 – 16 years ago.
