New Look to Baptist Board

"From what I gather..." Where did you 'gather' this information? The owner of the domain name, who took over on Sept. 26, 2015, is not published.

What difference does it make if the website is owned by an individual or a company? Someone is going to own it, no matter what, and companies are run by people.

What are the hallmarks of a "true Christian run forum"?

I suppose technically Baptist Board is owned by a company (Nerdie Media LLC), however I am the owner/founder and sole employee lol.

Hmmm... google Sean Melton. All sorts of information, including a number of websites he owns that are about brokering website deals and online advertising systems. There is more to this world than whois information. LinkedIn, photos, etc.

If he sells this company, or it becomes publicly traded, then non-Christians could easily be in control of it. Watch the news lately? Big move to silence Christians.

A forum run by people who have similar beliefs that will not allow atheists and trolls to over run the forum and turn it into a Christian bashing website. Tell you what, run over to reddit.com/r/christianity and see what happens when those who aren't Christian take over a Christian discussion area. Do you want BB to become a place where you are silenced, or banned outright, for calling homosexuality a sin?

Just installed another addon, if you highlight the bottom right corner of anyones post you have several options now to "rate" their post, vs just "like". Hope this makes the forum more "fun".

People are going to have a field day with "bad spelling".

I doubt that would happen here. If it were to happen here whatever revenue hoped to be generated here would be dead. Then some enterprising Christian would start a new website forum with controls on atheists and other unfriendlies. That's how capitalism works. Besides, Sean has already said he's going to cut some of the ads around here (which were incredibly obtrusive and likely kept many people away.) Also, there is a place to make a free-will contribution. I hope that many people will donate. I've already tried, but apparently it's not hooked up.

Reddit.com is basically a free-for-all, no holds barred information exchange. It's not meant to be a "Christian forum".

One of your new "Facebook" type icons at the top is a little envelope. Click that you'll see where you can start a new "conversation".
"Conversations" is a Facebook thing. I want to send PMs and have them replied to. The PM format was easy to save into my MS Word "letter" file. I'm not sure the "conversation" is. Sigh.

And this post didn't record right away, and when I tried again I had to sign in again. Frustrating. So there are still some glitches which I trust will be fixed.

I'm not opposed to the new software--don't know it much yet. I'll reserve that until the glitches are worked out.

From my initial post I explained that I myself am Baptist. I did not purchase this website for the purpose of turning a profit or buying and selling it. That is what I do for my day job yes, however, I have always had a passion to own a Christian website, and thought it was really neat when this became available for purchase.

My goal is to make this the best Baptist (and Christian in general), forum online, with the hope of being able to bring more people online to the faith. :)

Now that is a worthy goal.

What type of Baptist are you, Sean?

Also, haven't seen a response in regards to a new skin, but curious what this "default" a few have mentioned is. I've looked for it but haven't found it yet. Could you help me out with that?

One other thing, when quoting, I don't see a quote function listed with the others. Am I just missing it or is that just not in there?

God bless.

Just as a suggestion, Sean, in light of your goal, I would recommend a board that is for atheists. Many forums have such a spot, and it is just my belief (and this from experience) that believers seldom know how to handle the more radical atheists. It would provide a great testing ground for the members here who might be interested in witnessing to atheists, and it is through discussion that I believe we learn how to do that.

I am also curious, are you going to be participating in any of the threads yourself?

God bless.

Thank you Sean. That makes me feel a little better. I wish you much success with the endeavor. :)

Just a quick update, TapaTalk will be instead shortly to work with the new software.

Also, I will be making a few other adjustments (and adding new features). Stay tuned.

If you see any issues, please let me know.

Congratulations, Sean. Is this a blind date for you? Or did you see this board for a while?

I've actually known about Baptist Board but never signed up, after hearing from Andrew it was for sale though, I immediately jumped at the opportunity as I have always been a huge fan of forums, and to own one around my religious beliefs was a huge bonus.

That's what happened to Crosswalk and, then, to ChristianForums.

A forum run by people who have similar beliefs that will not allow atheists and trolls to over run the forum and turn it into a Christian bashing website. Or go to CARM. CARM used to be a great place. Now, it's nothing but trolls.

Many of us have expressed our concerns to them and their answer has been, essentially, to sit down and shut up.

But because a core group of posters is actually more concerned about the direction of their boards than they are, they've become so bad that they've gotten a terrible reputation.

James White, who reads the forums (we know this because he regularly refers to threads there and sometimes to specific posters on his show...I think he posts there occasionally under a pseudonym but I don't remember what it is), and Todd Friel both have said on their shows that it's such a dank cesspool that Christians shouldn't go there. And when even James White doesn't think you should go there, that's pretty bad.

As a result, all the good posters are leaving. And the administration and moderators have no one but themselves to blame.

In another thread I got the first "my way or the highway" response from Sean, which is exactly how the trouble at CARM started, so I'm not optimistic about this.

The mods here did eventually get rid of a couple of the trolls, like "Dr"James Ach, SaturnNeptune, RipponWV (who was actually a sock of saturnneptune), but only after months of pleading by a couple of us. They don't appear be interested in getting rid of the current crop of trolls at all. It's a shame, too, because I looked forward to having this place as a fallback when CARM finally implodes.
