NFL Bans Kneeling During National Anthem

I couldn't care less about what someone might say to William Windsor but, then again, I'm not some cringing royalist; I may be distantly related to them but that doesn't mean I think they're the bees knees

My point flew right over your head.

It's about protocol. Tradition says the person to be knighted kneels during the ceremony. Not doing so would be gauche.

Here in the US tradition says people stand during the national anthem. Not doing so is considered ill mannered.

But where I come from, enforced patriotism is fascism....which is what we fought a war against 75 years ago

If you're penalised for not observing 'tradition', what would you call it? I thought you guys were always banging on about the First Amendment?

Lol

With a little help.

We don't need lessons from the British about the exercising of patriotism , nor of all things, free speech. There is no such thing as freedom of speech in the United Kingdom. You prove it daily.

I call it a rule enforced by a private corporation on their workers and has nothing to do with government coercion of behaviour.

But either your First Amendment rights are absolute...or they don't exist in reality. Make up your minds.. which is it?

And you are proving it doesn't exist in the US with this thread, LOL!

Another really stupid remark from a Brit that has no idea what freedom of speech is nor how to exercise it.

The NFL bruhaha is not a free speech issue. No one has ever denied they have the right to express themselves, but they have been, and will continue to be, held responsible for how they use it.

They insulted large slices of the American public and are bearing the brunt of the public's reaction. They had their say and now the public is having theirs. It's time they acted like men and accepted it.

Your (snip) statements tells everyone here you have zero understanding of the issue. Maybe you should stick to chasing down the "criminals" in your own society that hurt some minority groups feelings, especially when they're speaking the truth. That's seems to be what the British are good at.

You're way out of your depth speaking out on how Americans exercise free speech.

Then they don't exist in reality. The Supreme Court ruled that a law against shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater does not violate the amendment.

they can always go on strike and sit out games but everyone is replaceable and there are other players that really want to play in the NFL.

This is just too little too late, you had to hit Roger with a sledgehammer to come around, talk about a delayed reaction. I'm not sure if I believe Shaun King, he's a black poseur who thinks this is somehow a big win for Donald Trump.

The First Amendment protects citizens from government. It does not, nor has it ever, protected an employee at work from his employer. A basic level of reading comprehension would tell you that.

The concept of "absolute" is valid only with God's truths, not man's constructs. In addition to the above, there are laws against criminal threatening that have been tried constitutionally and upheld. The 1st Amendment "free exercise of religion" does not extend to human sacrifice, or even to animal sacrifice. A saying in the above "Fire!" vein is, "My right to swing my fist ends before it hits your nose."
And while some might accuse the NFL front office as acting in a fascist manner, that (as noted in several posts) is nowhere close to governmental fascism.

Let's see if those who call the NFL's action fascist do the same thing about the network airing Rosanne, whose new rebooted show was a hit, but today was canceled after some post she made on social media. I'm not sure of the details, but I heard that on the radio, waiting for a traffic report 'on the 8's.'
