Actually, your question got me curious. As a Vet, I am proud to give the military hand salute during the National Anthem.
Also - at military movie theaters - the Anthem is played before all movies.

In 2009, a law was passed that provides for Vets to render the military hand salute!
From the Link: "The military salute is a unique gesture of respect that marks those who have served in our nation's armed forces," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake. "This provision allows the application of that honor in all events involving our nation's flag."

Thank you Scarlett!

Speaking of the flag, I have noticed all these dark colored American flags, do you know who, when, and where this alteration of the colors of the flag was authorized?

Not sure which ones you are referring?

Those are flags supporting the police - but I do not like them - of course I support LEO - but not at the expense of our National Flag.

There are other ways we can show our support of police

That is exactly the way I feel. I am also against clothing that mimics the flag - very disrespectful if you ask me.

It's not meant as an insult...
As the military holds the flag as a symbol of protecting our nation from foreign invasion....
The flags you show are meant to show solidarity with law enforcement (the VAST majority of whom are former military)...
To demonstrate the support for law and order against anarchy.

Freedom requires both.
The uniqueness of our Revolution is that it was a principled and disciplined one steeped in law as opposed to a bunch of thugs with pitchforks like the French Revolution and the godless hell which proceeded it.

YAY for Salty's insistence that only the military (or people like himself) be praised for our freedom....
So, give him his love...but other people contributed as well.
Our Nation was the only one throughout history which was simultaneously a revolution against an established order, and a seminar for the respect for law and order.
There absolutely cannot be any meaningful freedom without law and order.

Our Continental Congress during the Revolution actually voted on a resolution to appropriate funds to repay the private investors of any investments lost due to the Boston Tea Party....(which was an embarrassing lawless thuggery).

Don't insult the flag by pretending that adding a line which reinforces law and order as inherent in it (and equally as important to freedom) somehow detracts from the American ideal.
It could be argued that there is ABSOLUTELY NO BETTER way to show support to police than to demonstrate that the freedoms we as Americans enjoy are steeped in a notion of law. No better example is shown than in the efforts of founding father John Adams defending British Soldiers in the events we know as the...

"Boston Massacre".

John Adams....a man of law....defended in a Colonial Court (meaning with colonial jurors) the officers accused and exonerated most of them of all wrongdoing and reduced the charges from murder down to a minor offense...with colonial jurors.
Why?
How?
Because he was a man of law and order and a respect for what it would take to make a truly free Republic.
The United States Army is not the only branch of service that ever existed.
And the United States Army, and the military in general is/are not the only governmental entity/entities which protect freedom.

Never mind I say nothing...
ONLY and ONLY the U.S. ARMY and those who served therein are responsible for our freedom and worthy of representation...

Marines don't matter, the Navy doesn't matter, Forget the Air Force, Law enforcement doesn't matter...
Only Salty matters and is solely responsible for everything that makes this county great.

First - You know that I said no such thing.

In case you missed it - I DO SUPPORT LEO!

But changing our flag is NOT the way to do it.

And for your info many civilians, in addition to the military have assisted in our freedoms.
I could list a few, but I will let you figure that out.

Thus your post is totally out of line

The flag represents a nation not a military or first responder organization. It’s confusing sometimes because so many have tried to make the flag about themselves including many veterans and LEO personnel.

First - You know that I said no such thing.
I made no claims about what you said...
So, yes, whatever I claim you "said"...
obviously, you didn't say it.

UMMM...
Duh...

In case you missed it - I DO SUPPORT LEO!
I missed nothing, and yes, I know you support LEO...
You are very supportive of Law enforcement...
I didn't challenge nor debate that.
But changing our flag is NOT the way to do it.
No one is changing our flag....
The blue line rendition of the flag is a way of supporting law enforcement, and it harkens back to the fact that along with our brave military forces....defenders of freedom are also, and always those who keep law and order.
There is no freedom without both functions.
And for your info many civilians, in addition to the military have assisted in our freedoms.
You don't inform me of anything.
I informed you...
I could list a few,
I doubt that.
but I will let you figure that out.
I have, that's why I'm not super impressed with the "Salty was once in the Army, thus, we all have to worship his form of patriotism"...…..
I was a United States Marine...you weren't.
Your status as once in the Army doesn't impress me one whit...
I earned my right to say anything I want.
Thus your post is totally out of line
It was in line I have nothing to apologize for, I stand by every word.
You are not the default keeper of our holy symbols because you were some random bloke who identifies himself as having once been in the Army.

I say, I like that blue line symbol of the flag, and it is designed to tell us something important.
What it tells us, is that the thin red line between communism and freedom was defended by our military, and that same thin blue line protects us from anarchy via proper understanding of law....
I like that flag.
I support it.
I have as much right to like it as a Marine, as you do to dislike it as a Soldier...
I disagree with you, I call you out, I say you are wrong, and that isn't out of line.
I earned the right to say that as a United States Marine.
You were an Army soldier....good for you.
You can say what you want to.....
I'll be Darned, though, if you think I haven't earned the right to tell an Army bloke what I believe.
I'll say what I want to you....thankyaverymuch.

Yes, but, Nations are built on ideals....
Only Liberals really think they are built on race or something.
That's never been true.
Flags always represent ideals.

I don’t think I’ve met a liberal who thinks that the country was built on race? That’s a weird statement. Ideals sure. The thin blue line? Not really.

I don’t think I’ve met a liberal who thinks that the country was built on race?
All liberals, like you, are always, and only obsessed with and consumed by "race".
It is the only thing you, or any liberal thinks about, dreams about, or obsesses over.
It is how all liberals view the world...
Because it is not enough for you that man was made in the image of God.
You have to see color, as though God is so limited as to focus on it.
It consumes your thoughts, I have no doubt.

Ah the classic “liberal” non sequitor from the BB intellectuals. Never gets old.

Enjoy your blue racing stripe in our flag comrade.

See the "1619" project, it's all about race and slavery. White liberals are obsessed about race and the guilt that they have about it, with them being white and thus "privileged" because of it.

Ah the classic “liberal” non sequitor
Even if I mis-label you...
that isn't "non-sequitur".
"Non-sequitur" means:
It does not follow....
But, we've made no argument.
Thus, a "non-sequitur" isn't possible.
You are a liberal.
Like all liberals, you think everyone who doesn't think like you is stupid.
We aren't stupid.
Try another tactic.
Perhaps I or others are presumptuous, or something else, (maybe you have an argument there?) but, there's no "non-sequitur."
from the BB intellectuals.
We aren't "intellectuals" as such...
but, you certainly don't outwit us.
Nor are you crafty enough to mince words, and come out on top.
Enjoy your blue racing stripe in our flag
Personally, I don't like it a lot.
I think it somewhat uncreative, and a better symbol could have been assumed.
I'm not a huge fan really.
I'm not your "comrade".
I doubt very seriously the genuineness of your faith, and would guess (if pressed) that you are not a genuine Christian.
Of course, it is not for me to judge....
Only, suffice it to say, you are not my "comrade."
