1 Corinthians 2:14

14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

That is the reason why Jesus tells us to believe not to understand. It is His job to open our eyes. We are to trust in Christ. You do not have to be given the Holy Spirit to believe, just come as you are blind as a bat. Jesus will do what He says He will do just the way you are.

When Jesus tells us to believe in Him, He means you don't have to know anything else all you have to do believe in Him.

You just come to Him as a child listen and learn from Him and He will open your eyes.

When you read the scriptures you see it through a veil or the Holy Spirit?

Seriously!? Seriously incorrect.

He wants us to both believe and understand.

Note His rebuke to Nicodemus in John 3:10

"Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?'

He opened their understanding.

'Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,' Luke 24:45

Again;

'Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us of God.' 1 Corinthians 2:12

BTW, your 'you don't need to be given the Holy Spirit to believe' is Pelagianism 101.

Unbelievable! I can't believe I'm seeing this on a Baptist forum.

We only believe by His power. Carefully read Ephesians 1:19.

Um, like in your previous post? :wavey:

I see that not owning up is something that seems to be rampant among non-Calvinists.

Why not just admit you mispoke attempting to convey yourself as super spiritual in said post? You were Biblically incorrect, not only on that issue, but also concerning not needing the Holy Spirit to believe.

The very same way that many feel about some of your comments as well.

What I said is we can come to Him just the way you are knowing nothing and He will open your eyes to understand the scripture in a nutshell nothing that you are suggesting I am saying.

I love my calvinist brothers. They taught me so much I would not be where I am without people like Spurgeon.
