Thrown shoes will not count.

Any other names, insults or accusations will not count.

Crabby has drawn his line in the sand - it must be "you lie".
When did a Democratic member of Congress throw a shoe at President Bush? When did they interrupt his speech hurling names and insults? Link please.

It has been interesting reading the replies and watching how people muddle the message and lead it off course. Of course the op was about no one shouting "You lie" from the floor of Congress at Bush. But I guess those who call themselves conservatives here do not want to admit that the Democrats showed more respect for Bush during joint sessions than the Republicans did for Obama.

Was Wilson's outburst planned, as some believe? It may have been. After all he was from one of the safest seats in the House. In many town hall meetings the disruptions were planned. Was this another example of how uncivil conservatives have become?

I will tell you old crabapple. You talk about 4000+ servicemen killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. I have never heard President Bush or any Republican demean our servicemen. I have heard democrat turbin durbin of Illinois call them Jack Booted Thugs on the Senate Floor. I have heard democrat John Kerry of Mass. accuse them of Rape on the Senate Floor. I have heard democrat John Murtha accuse them of murder. All of them liars. They are simply typical of the leftists democrats in Congress and a disgrace to the nation.

These sorry specimen of mankind can wax tearful over the execution of cold blooded murderers like Killer Tiller, the cop killer in Philadelphia, or someone accidentally killed in war, but don't give a tinkers dam about the 50 million unborn children they have participated in slaughtering; and so is everyone that supports the abortionist democrat party.

I know it is hard, but could you stay on the subject under discussion?

I believe you misread me Thomas. I said that it is uncivil to shout "You lie" to any president in a joint session of Congress on national TV ... and I stand by that.

This is where we disagree. I believe it is part of the process. Last night on 3600 seconds (or 60 minutes) President Obama suggested we are in the midst of an uncivil moment in American politics. I disagree.

We need an uncivil discussion at times. Not everything is a white, lace gloves and crumpets tea time discussion. We have some very big, nasty confrontations that need to take place.

We have the most civil form of government I know of. I wish more Presidential addresses we're marked by open questions and confrontation. Since when is the President of the United States above question and confrontation? Seriously, since when?

He is the an equal with the leaders of the other branches of government.

Not to be disengenious but "Give me liberty, or give me death!" was the height of uncivil langauge. Calling King George a tyrant (in the Declaration of Independence) was necessary uncivil language. This has always been part of the American process...and we need it now.

I'm not saying that we devolve into a fist-fighting republic, but we need to move beyond the petty ensconcements of a high-society women's bridge game and engage the real issues with real langauge.

The "Civil discussion" issue is nothing more than a means to quiet the opposition. It has no other intent by politicians or anyone on this board.

To every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven. A time and place for everything. A Presidential speech to a joint session of Congress is not the proper venue for incivility.

And yet, you still haven't condemned the incivility that occurred in 2005.

Of course you ignore the "incivility" in the Presidents speech. Probably the most unpresidential speech in history.

OH for crying out loud. That is nothing at all like shouting out "You Lie!". In fact, it appeared to be a polite, good natured response. I would not have opposed such by the Republicans for Obama either. If you guys think these are on the same level, your extreme partisanship is showing.

If that is considered polite by you, then your vitriolic hatred is no wonder.

Come on now, Crabby in his old cramudgeon style is sticking with requiring the exact words "you lie" when a President is giving a speech to Congress.

Nothing other than "you lie" is acceptable.

It is an old cramudgeon's right to be implacable.

Same with M.P.. C.T.B. must be M.P. Junior.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Can you stick to the topic?

YES JDF. This topic is about bashing President Bush and the Republicans. If you can't, in good conscience, BASH President Bush and the Republicans then you will just have to play "HUSH YORE MOUTH BOY".:laugh::laugh::laugh: Anyhoo you don't want to confuse MP. The lack of oxygen in "Mile High" has done enough damage.

HEH! I got me a real John Deere!
