No, Vaccinated People Are Not ‘Just as Likely’ to Spread the Coronavirus as Unvaccinated People

Among this last group, a common refrain I’ve heard to justify their renewed vigilance is that “vaccinated people are just as likely to spread the coronavirus.”

This misunderstanding, born out of confusing statements from public-health authorities and misleading media headlines, is a shame. It is resulting in unnecessary fear among vaccinated people, all the while undermining the public’s understanding of the importance—and effectiveness—of getting vaccinated.

So let me make one thing clear: Vaccinated people are not as likely to spread the coronavirus as the unvaccinated. Even in the United States, where more than half of the population is fully vaccinated, the unvaccinated are responsible for the overwhelming majority of transmission.

Vaccinated people can still spread the virus, still, catch the virus, and still become hospitalized by the virus. Data shows you are just as likely to spread the virus if you are vaccinated, as you are if you are unvaccinated.

Jon you should know by now that some people will not let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory.

More vaccinated people are dying of COVID than unvaccinated people, according to a recent report from Public Health England (PHE). The report shows that 163 of the 257 people (63.4%) who died within 28 days of a positive COVID test between February 1 and June 21, had received at least one dose of the vaccine. At first glance, this may seem alarming, but it is exactly as would be expected

The U.S. plays games with how they classify Vaxed and unvaxed. Many of the unvaxed deaths were actually vaxed.

There are some things we know:

The unvaccinated are more likely to get covid and are very much more likely to be hospitalized and die of covid than ate the unvaccinated.

We know this because of the data avaliable to us and the science behind the vaccines.

But conspiracy theorists reject science in favor of pseudoscience. They reject what scientific organizations put out and choose individual people who say what they want to hear.

What this means is they cannot be persuaded of the truth. They will always believe the earth is flat or aliens populated th earth, or the unvaccinated are more apt not to get covid.

Despite all of the science, all of the data, they will choose to reject science and follow their desires.

Good link. I have used the same example:

Here’s a simple thought experiment: imagine everyone is now fully vaccinated with COVID vaccines – which are excellent but can’t save all lives. Some people who get infected with COVID will still die. All of these people will be fully vaccinated – 100%. That doesn’t mean vaccines aren’t effective at reducing death.

The vaccines have, as the article you posted pointed out, been proven effective in the UK.

As more people are vaccinated breakthrough cases will rise (vaccines are not 100% effective). But hospitalizations and death per population will decrease.

I am actually surprised you agree....but this article does a good job of explaining how the anti-covid-vaxers can twist numbers to say the vaccine does not work when the numbers actually show the opposite to be true. They simply reject science and cling to conspiracy.

Look it up. Then you will believe it. You will dismiss any source I cite.

I could say the same to you, many have given information re the covid deaths etc but those that do not want to accept it will not do so. Where I live we are now starting to triage the patients because of the numbers of covid cases. One hundred percent of the new cases in ICU are unvaxed but why would you believe the Drs when you can just listen to facebook or twitter.

Jon I find it shocking that people , such as Reynolds, will post half truths as a way to support their views.
This was something in the article that Reynolds linked to that I don't think he wants out there

PHE data suggests that being double vaccinated reduces the risk of being hospitalized with the now-dominant delta variant by around 96%. Even conservatively assuming the vaccines are no more effective at preventing death than hospitalization (actually they are likely to be more effective at preventing death) this means the risk of death for double vaccinated people has been cut to less than one-twentieth of the value for unvaccinated people with the same underlying risk profile.

And they still will say the vaxes are not safe and do not work. Go figure.

I do not understand this either. Revmitchell posted a thread that proves the effectiveness of the vacvine in the UK, however I think he took the article to mean the opposite from what it actually said.

We know that the vaccines are safe (within safety standards, but not without risks). We know the risks associated with the vacvines are far less than the risks of not being vaccinated. We know the vacvines provide some protection from being infected with covid, from serious illness, from hospitalization and from death.

We know this from science and scientific data.

But we also know this as it is played out in the world. Revmitchell posted an article about Duke University - out of about 360 vacvinated people testing positive for covide most were asymptomatic, a few had mild cold-like symptoms, no hospitalizations. And we see this on a daily basis.

It does not make sence to us because it is a denial of facts, of data, of science. But this is how conspiracies work.

And if you can show me any, ANY proof, that, of 99% of the "data"(??) spouted by the experts, organizations, or press stories IS TRUTH, I would consider believing.
There has been so much flip-flopping on this that I don't believe anything I see anymore because of the political influence.

The issue is not proof (there has not been flip flopping but rather science vs conspiracy). The studies have shown the vacvibes to be effective (varying among age groups, but still effective in every category). The proof is there. It just depends on whether people will accept or reject the evidence.

And that is an individual decision. But it is not correct to say there is no proof when there is an abundance of evidence. It is more correct to say you do not accept the evidence as proof for whatever reason.
