Notre Dame Cathedral ON FIRE!

The Gospel hasn't gone out from Notre Dame in ages. It might as well burn.

I was waiting for this type of statement, congratulations you were the first. I will tell you this though, that those faithful who go to worship there and not to visit it as a museum do so with the love of the Lord in their hearts and to hear about the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is salvation through His death and resurrection which in turn makes the Holy Mass the perfect form of worship here on earth. We don't just sit there and listen to some pastor give us his version of the Scriptures, we are there at the foot of the Cross.

Personally I feel some remarks are inappropriate.

There is a time and place.

It was/is at very least a beautiful historical monument of Europe's history.

As I do believe there is a time and a place - you are correct. You know, my experience comes from the Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal. We went for Mass (in the rear chapel), but most of the people there were just visiting it as one would visit a museum. We might have been only 20 people there for worship, but our hearts were in the right place.

I have to admit that whenever I do visit a Catholic church, especially a pre-Vatican II version, I feel a lot of nostalgia.

Again to be openly honest my childhood memories of Catholicism are happy ones i.e. Christmas especially, Easter, First Holy Communion.

However the certainty of forgiveness of sin, peace, contentment and His constant presence in my life are presently very satisfying.

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

He may not have even noticed.
If a sparrow doesn't fall without His notice, It's hard to imagine He didn't notice this. He not only noticed it, He sent it, and likely at the hands of the Muslims that He is sending into Europe to judge their pride and idolatry.

God's opinion is, It is going to burn in the end anyway. He is not saddened by this at all.

Yeah, Colombia had a great President with Alvaro Uribe. Colombia is the most beautiful country in the world and the people of Colombia are the worst people in the world. I had some friends from there and they have fabulous Christmas decorations in the department of Antioquia. Also, a few years ago there children's theatre produced some world class Christmas videos. Flowers are everywhere and coffee is unbeatable. I think that about a fourth of all bird species are found in Colombia. The Indianapolis Museum of Art displayed the Crown of the Andes, as Colombia is rich in emeralds. It was beautiful beyond words:

Nice
Yeah, our friend probably would have been even more happy had it been full of worshippers.
factually though, it was not and nobody was hurt.

Really!?! Why????

Probably because there really is a difference between being in a church building set aside for the purpose of worship and worshipping in something that looks like the local Grange Hall. And you can't forget either that his initial religious formation was as a Catholic.

I love architecture that lifts ones mind. At the same time I think we need to remember the Church did not initially experience this difference for centuries. Originally the "church" was, literally, the assembly rather the homes in which they assembled.

It is possible for such "sacred spaces" to become detractors. The early church was not Catholic (the RCC as well as many Baptists reach back to claim such things, but that does not make it fact). The early church did not worship in stained glass cathedrals. And yet we are told they lacked nothing.

I have to wonder at rebuilding this cathedral in a country that is 94% irreligious and in a Paris neighborhood that is worse than Seattle?

At any rate, those large cathedrals are pure folly from an economic standpoint because of the high cost of maintenance. It is a horrible waste of money when human need is so widespread and half the world and probably half of France lives in squalor.

One might say the same for most museums and historic sites. Or for sending astronauts into space, or, or... Sometimes it's uplifting to see physical evidence of what God-given talent and strength can produce.

I see your point. Christians don't have tax money to support them hopefully and I suppose a rich person could build and endow a cathedral. On the Circle in Indy there is a church with Tiffany stained glass windows. They have to be leaded after so long. That is expensive. High steeples are difficult to roof. I once worked in a mid-sized Gothic building. The upkeep was terrible. When the economy collapses as it did recently, the expenses go on. A building like Notre Dame would have to have all sorts of crews working on it daily. The US doesn't have that kind of money anymore.

Of course He saw it but I don't know that He purposely sent it because much of the structure is still standing with humankind projecting plans to rebuild it.

Let me assure you that when the LORD decides it's over, the entire molecular universe is going up in smoke with a resurrected creation in its place where you and I and "whosoever will" will dwell with Him for eternity.

In the meantime I retain the right to name what is beautiful even if is of the "glory of man" we are made in His image (including Catholics and Muslims).
