You give him too much credit.

Venezuela's President, Hugo Chavez, says he has offered Moscow the use of an airfield off its Caribbean coast for Russian strategic long-range bombers.

Kissin' up to communists comes natural for Obama.
It won't help with Iran at all. That's rationalization , if not just outright wishful thinking.
I bet you screamed when Russia was going to put missiles in Cuba. Remember last year there was noise that Russia Chevez would allow Russia to put military bases in Venezeula as a response to Bush's effort?
The missile sheild, a misnamed project, was a stupid idea from the beginning. This was not bowing to Putin. To think so is to be unthinking of the ramifications of a very stupid action on our part. With our satellites and existing radars this was an unnecessary project ... but for some reason Bush's rediculious far right wing wanted it.

What is that old saying, stupid is as stupid does. I explained it to MP but he didn't understand. I doubt that your leftist mind will accept the truth either. The missiles the Soviet Union put in Cuba were Offensive Missiles. The missiles that President Bush wanted to put in Eastern Europe were Defensive Missiles.
People continue to say that Obama is smart not stupid so we must assume by this action that he does not have the best interests of this country at heart. It is certain that he shafted the folks in Eastern Europe and delivered them into the hands of the Russian bear. Anyone with any knowledge of history would know that Russia has always had an expansionist mentality.
With the missile shield out of Eastern Europe, Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, said Thursday that Obama's call for other systems, such as the sea-based Aegis Weapons System, the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) interceptor and advanced sensors, creates an opportunity for a ground-based missile defense at Fort Greely, Alaska. That system, Begich said, could protect the homeland from long-range rockets coming from North Korea or Iran.

CBT YOU ARE DISGUSTING! WHY IS IT THAT YOU LEFTISTS HATE THIS COUNTRY SO MUCH?
The missile system in Eastern Europe was not intended to be a shield. It is not expected that Iran will have hundreds of ICBM's in the near future. The system was designed to intercept a limited number of Offensive Missiles.

Why would Russia believe Bush when he said it was defensive seeing how he had lied so much about other things. Would you believe Russian if they were putting "defensive" missiles in Canada? I don't think so. You would be beating the war drums.
Under Communism Russia was expansive. I believe Putin and others are much more into economic warfare than military. They know that a war with the US would be the end of Russia and the US, indeed the end of mankind.
Into the hands of the Russian Bear ... I don't think so. Which countries have suddenly become Russian? From what I heard in the Czech Republic the last four years they were very much against our putting radar into the country. The president accepted, but because he basically was bribed. There were several countries that refused to go along with Bush on this.
And we do have other alternatives that would be just as effective, if not more so, and would not alienate us from some current allies and possible future ones.

Simply more inflammatory talk. Has no validity at all. In fact, you want war which will guarantee our destruction. I desire peace which will save us from destruction. Be rational, please.

How do they go from zero to hundreds so quickly? North Korea has been working on missiles for years and years and has not developed a true ICBM yet. Do you really believe that Iran can suddenly develop one?

What route would their missiles take? Do you believe those countries would simply stand by and do nothing as Iran developed missiles. Russia will be all over them like flies on honey if they go too far .... as will Israel.

Here is the skinny....they just don't want to spend any money on anything military or defense. That detracts form their marxist agenda.
The federally budgeted (see below) military expenditure of the United States Department of Defense for fiscal year 2009 is[1]:
Components ↓ Funding ↓ Change From FY08 ↓
Operations and maintenance $179.8 Bil. +9.5%
Military Personnel $125.2 Bil. +7.5%
Procurement $104.2 Bil. +5.3%
Research, Development, Testing & Evaluation $79.6 Bil. +4.1%
Military Construction $21.2 Bil. +19.1%
Family Housing $3.2 Bil. +10.3%
Resolving and Management Funds $2.2 Bil. -18.5%
Total Base Spending $515.4 Bil. +5.7%
Not included in the DoD budget is $23.4 billion to be spent by the Department of Energy to develop and maintain nuclear warheads.[2]

Typical quote of Democratic apologists.
I am fully aware of the history since I lived part of it. You will get a thoughtful response when you give a thoughtful post, and not parrot the Democrat/Socialist agenda.
I would appreciate a thoughtful reply and now just a meaningless one-liner. Please respond with some rational thought. I will appreciate it greatly.
Given the history of the last 15 years and the rise of the economy in Russia show me otherwise. Remember there is no Warsaw Pact in existence now. Remember many of the former Warsaw Pact countries are now a part of NATO, so an attack on one is an attack on NATO. The world is a different place. The Cold War ended. We live in a different world and those changes need to be considered.

A parrot only repeats what it hears. CBT either did not know that Russia had invaded and annexed part of the nation Georgia or was being, to put it nicely, disingenuous. Perhaps the leftist media did not carry the story.
Of course I know. Did you know that the president of Georgia was foolish enough to tweek the Bear's nose. Of course Russia was looking for an excuse to take back some territory. Also, Georgia is not part of NATO ... did you know that? NATO is aiding Georgia in their reforms. Did you know that?
You sure have gotten smart since your last post CBT! Hip Hip Hurrah!
One reason that Georgia and the Ukraine are not part of NATO is because the Russian bear growled and the wimpy Socialist Old Europe caved just like the pinkos in this country.
A person or a country has to pick and choose when to stand firm and when to compromise and when to cooperate.
Do you believe we would growl if Russia was forming a 'defensive' alliance with Mexico and Canada. No we would scream. Russia, understandably, see the growth of NATO as an attempt to surround them so we can attack aqnd destroy them. I think this is an unfounded fear ... but it is an understandable one.
That is one major reason I believe the idea of linking NATO's and Russia's missile systems together is a excellent idea. I seriously doubt that Russia would ever join NATO, but if we can move them to a position of them cooperating with NATO against common enemies it would be a great step forward for us and for them in establishing more friendly relations.
CBT
You are just like the "pinkos" or "fellow travelers" of the post WWII days. You always find a way to side with the communist Soviet Union, now Russia, against the United States. That is at least unpatriotic if not treasonous.
President Bush tried to deal with Putin and Russia as budding democracy and got kicked in the privates for his effort. Obama simply caved.
Furthermore, Obama lied about the missile system on Eastern Europe. He told Bill O'Reilly last year that he would keep the Defensive Missile system in Eastern europe.
We have no moral authority to tell Russia it cannot have missiles near our border if we do the same thing along theirs. Why should they trust us? Even benevolent nations can make bad decisions.
