Although being filled with the Spirit will result in living in obedience, living in obedience is NOT the definition of being filled with the Spirit, I don't think.Originally posted by Molly:
Being filled with the spirit is living in obedience to God's word.

When we are called to be Holy that is a great responsibility.

Freedom from the Law is not a DO YOUR OWN THING RESPONCE to Gods Laws as many believers feel.
What a person must understand is that they can only accomplish being Holy by letting Christ live in them.Originally posted by jimslade:
Understanding the concept of "Being Holy as I AM Holy" overstates the power of the Law.
We don't serve in the new way by following a set of rules, we serve in the new way of the Spirit.Rom 7:6
6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

Well, there are many things noted in God's word when it comes to an outward change:Originally posted by Don:
Ah, but what outward appearance are you looking for?
Then Lorelei's original post is a misapplication. The Galatians passage has to do with adding the Law of Moses to salvation, not whether it is proper or not for women to be adorned in a certain manner.Originally posted by Helen:
And Aaron, it is not a matter of headcoverings determining salvation, but of the judgment of others concerning them regarding the state of a person's heart towards God.
A big amen, hallelujah to that swordsman!! Thank you for sharing your experience with us.Originally posted by swordsman:
If your husband or wife used their liberty as much as we do as christians, would you want to be married to them?
I AM NOT trying to upset anyone, this hit home to me a few years ago in my own life and walk.

Paul elsewhere appeals to the Law of Moses to say that it is right and proper for preachers to get paid by their congregations. Now, where is the cry of "Legalism!" over that?
Now IF we were required by law to do this, or IF we had to do this to stay in fellowship with God or IF this was necessary in order to be blessed, then Paul should have hoped that they would OBEY that LAW and pay him for his services, but he did not. It wasn't a law, however it was beneficial. Remember "all things are lawful, but not all things are beneficial."1 Cor 9:15
15 But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me. I would rather die than have anyone deprive me of this boast.

This is a perfect example from the Scriptures of where the Law of Moses, properly understood, can be used to judge right and proper church polity. He no where says that the salvation of the individual members of a congregation is contingent upon the salary of their pastor.
Originally posted by Aaron:
Would you be judging the state of the hearts of the individuals in that congregation toward God to present to them the admonition that churches should generously pay their pastors?

In the same way, these ladies, who are being grossly misrepresented, have in no way suggested that any of you are any less Christians or loved by God. They see the admonitions in 1 Cor. 11 as a straightforward statement about God's chosen badges of authority and submission.

Is Lorelei making a judgment about the hearts of these ladies toward God with her post? I'm sure she would be very offended at the suggestion.

To characterize these ladies as "foolish Baptists" with a wrenching and twisting of Paul's words must cut them pretty deep.
If you think this thread was an attack on anyone here, then you are wrong. I had no particular person in mind, nor did I follow many of their threads about the head covering. I used that among other things as an example. To the best of my recollection I have not had a disputable discussion with any lady over these matters, nor have I accused any of them of being judgemental.Originally posted by Aaron:
Yet, they don't respond as many of you have done to their perceived attacks, which pale in comparison to this thread. They are not real. The more I read the more I am convinced that the problem does not lie in their presentation of their views.

And, indeed, they are perceived. They are not real. The more I read the more I am convinced that the problem does not lie in their presentation of their views.[/QB]

Lorelei as I compare your quote above with the one from page 1 what am I to understand about your view of the law?

Just wondering

3:1 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? 4 Have you suffered so much for nothing-if it really was for nothing? 5 Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard?
NIV
Murph---Lorelai let's look closely at the groups you are attacking with your post and thread "foolish baptists"
Recently women have been told they must cover their heads or wear dresses. Paul asks them this:
Did you receive the Spirit because of what you wore or because you believed?
Murph----#1 the ladies who have stated their convictions that they should cover themselves in certain ways. I feel you have no right to attack them.
Women have been told they are still bound to a marriage no matter what the circumstances. Paul asks them:
Have you suffered so much for nothing?
Murph----#2 I admit I am not familiar with who you are addressing here but apparently you have someone in mind, who is this attack aimed at?
Church members who say that the church is not bound under the law of the tithe are told to stop that line of reasoning and are therefore not considered to be "fundamental" in belief. Paul says:
Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?
Murph----#3 I take offense at this one because I was involved in a like discussion in the fundamental forum. I claim it was an attack on my view and stance because you claim that I am advocating one can be saved by their works of tithing, when infact all I was standing against was comments which claimed that God will not bless His servants even if they honor Him with their giving. As I stated on that forum I felt this was disgraceful to claim that God would not bless us.When Scripture so often states that He will.
Now as I have pointed out what I feel are your atatcks in this post let's look at your discussion with Aaron:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I called us all foolish Baptists. Paul said clearly that you are foolish if you begin with the Spirit and then try to complete your walk with human effort. Those are not my words they are Paul's. I aimed them at all of us, to make us all think. To encourage everyone to examine what is thier motivation for the things they do. Is it truly something that is Spirit led, or are you as a person trying to fulfill that role?
Murph----I believe that this is a copout, I don't see your finger being pointed at "all" but rather at select persons or groups who you feel are legalists. I am not a legalist I am saved by grace alone. As you have above asked everyone to examine their motivation for the things they do I must ask you the same, especially in this period when in my view ( correct me if I am wrong) the ladies who are getting all the criticism for their clothing stance have been very reserved and quiet. I will also ask each person that has jumped on the bandwagon on this thread to also examine their motives. Let's all learn to love one another while we try and express the convictions God has blessed us with.
