A poster recently said to me that after I was asked how old the earth was and I affirmed a young earth I would lose people and the conversation would stop. Well I don't care as I care only for the truth and the Bible is quite clear that the earth is young and was created in 6 literal 24-hour days.

The 10 Best Evidences from Science that Confirm a Young Earth

You see all you have to do is read a internet article. No books to buy as some of you are against reading books other than the Bible, yet are perfectly okay with reading articles on the Internet.

Some questions I ask those that believe in a old earth and that the days in Genesis were not literal 24-hour periods. Was Jonah in the belly of the fish for thousands of years? Why do you re-interpret the days in creation to not be literal 24-hour periods, yet believe in 24-hour periods in other parts of scripture?

And yet, there was Harold Camping who held to the verses that say "to the Lord, a day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years are as a day"; and came to the conclusion that each day of creation was a thousand years long, and preached such for decades.

He's dead now; but how would you answer his followers if they asked you on a street corner?

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

That a simile there and not to be taken literally.

However you forget the next simile (see above).

Similes do mean something. IOW when it comes to the passage of time with the Lord time measurement may very well come in unequal literal equivalences.

Would say that the Bible supports ,ore of a younger earth model, but no date, as that 6000 yrs came from Ussher!

And this is no issue to have one proved to be saved or not by, as it is not an issue to divide over!

I myself struggle with the question of whether the earth is young or old.

For me the most sound argument for new Believers like myself for a young earth is to say the world has apparent age. That God made the universe to seem old, but that we had to take it on faith that His Word is true.

If not, think of it, we prove the Bible true to all other theologies with simple instrument measurements. That is an enemy of faith, and thus I see why God would give us apparent age in such a way to disprove other religions, which are imaginary theologies and gods.

Are you sure? Wasn't Peter quoting David from Psalm 90?

Name one person on this forum who is against reading books.
Man, I skimmed right over that phrase.

Shame on you, John. You know that's not true. What they don't like is placing equal--or more--emphasis on other books.

Did you read the articles I posted? The Bible and science are quiet clear that the earth is young.

You just do not get it event though it is right in front of you. No one is against reading books, in fact we all most likely have a long reading list. The problem is not that we do not like reading books but we take issue with how you use them. You sincerely seem ignorant of the proper role of books, when to use them to support your claim, and how to use them to do the same. It seems like I remember you have some formal training but something went amiss in your training. No legitimate professor of any legitimate and accredited school teaches their students to wield books the way you do. Now you have either been taught wrong or you have been slow on the uptake with regards to how you have been taught. Considering how you have misrepresented what some have said to you I lean towards the latter. Young man you need some discipleship and training. As things are you continue to show your ignorance.

You are right.

The problem is that he will reject discipleship and training that challenges his already adopted ideas or confronts his desires. By his own standard his heart warrants not grace but the "Law", a hypocrisy that has somehow escaped his notice.

So the question is whether Christians should evangelize @evangelist6589 and try to disciple the man or shake off the dust and move on. I am inclined to believe the latter in prayerful hope God will incline his heart to the former.

Then move on. One less critic to deal with.

This is a problem I have with apologetics. By using science to prove a point, even if you are right, you have answered fools according to their folly! (Proverbs 26:4-5) In this case rationalism. Of course, he will retreat to his scientific counterexamples and think himself wiser than you.

I have moved on from trying to help and support you. Comments here are directed at what you post and for the benefit of others. I believe your threads and comments serve to demonstrate not only the dangers of biblical illiteracy but also how detrimental "lone wolf" Christianity is to evangelism. It shows a self-centerdness that is the antithesis of the Christian walk and impossible to reconcile with true discipleship.

Insofar as posting against false teachings and benign faith, I will continue doing that on this forum.

As before, you and your wife remain in our prayers. I believe as you mature God will move you towards discipleship and a submission to the lordship of Christ. When that time comes perhaps we can revive a few of our discussions.

I said it to you and I was absolutely correct. I did not say the Earth was or was not young. I said you would lose them at the point you dogmatically insisted The Earth was young. Just bluntly speaking, the reason YOU would lose them at that point is because YOU can't defend it. All you can do is talk about books and links.
