Hi Kelly, My proof is that I am born again. I became a new creation in Christ and now His Spirit bears witness with my spirit that I am a child of God.
Also, In the verse Singer used the believing was second, coming to Christ stops the hunger, thats what the verse says. Thanks Singer.

Found it. Those who do not persevere to the end were not saved to begin with.
Since no one can know with certainty that they will persevere to the end, where does the assurance come in?
Without knowing if one is saved or not, what assurance does one have?

The assurance is that if we continue to run the race we will be found righteous. If we believe that we will continue to race, then we can believe that we will be found righteous.
It may be in imperfect view and we can be wrong, but I don't believe anyone is saying that assurance equals must happen.
Tazman I have been very busy...but here is a start on some of my backing verses.
John 3:15-16 & 18 & 36 these all tell you that if you Believe on him, you shall not perish, but have Everlasting life. & verse 18 he that believeth on him is not condemned.
& also John 6:35 & 40 also tell you if you believe in him you have everlasting life.
& Romans 7:25 I thank god through Jesus Christ our lord. so then with the mind i myself serve the law of god; but with the flesh the law of sin.
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit.
Romans 8:2 For the law of the spirit of life in christ Jesus hath made me Free from the law of Sin and Death.
Read the intire ch 6 & 7 of John & also ch 8 of Romans & see what you make of it. & there is alot more in the bible that tells me so.(OSAS)
So what i see in these few verses here; it is telling me that if i was truley saved then i cannot & will not loose my salvation ever. I see my salvation is secure in christ Jesus.

OK, rectify your interpretation of that passage with Matthew 25:31-46 (any translation you'd like), Or Matthew 7:21-23 for that matter.
Sad, isn't it, that one can interpret any singular verse in any way one desires to.

What amazes me is that people like to quote John 3:16, but also like to totally ignore verse 21:
"But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God."
It is what we practice that reveals what we believe.
That is a mighty big 'IF'.

TP, I read the verses. Matthew 7 works very well with what I have said. It is the difference of having a "root" and not having one. If you really know Him, you are His. If you don't the verse clearly says that Jesus will say depart from me. That is the person who was never saved that Jesus said that to. He said I "NEVER" knew you.
Now the other verses present a different issue and bring up the old justification issue. In those verses Jesus is talking about "proving" you are His. Now we know that we do not have to "prove" anything to Jesus because he knows all. We therefore show "others" we are His by what we do. If we are not "showing" are faith it stands to reason there is no faith. This set of verses is however an object lesson. Using real circumstances to promote a theme of loving your neighbor. Lets face it, if I go a week and am less responsive to those around me and in fact don't really serve anyone and Jesus happens to return at the end of the week does he sentance me to Hell for not "showing" love for a week. That obviously is not what he is saying. There is a greater point about "loving others" in Matthew 25. I believe that those who have never "shown" their faith or "proved" their faith to others are proclaiming that they are not justified and not saved.

On a superficial level, yes what I am saying is very much in line with Catholic beliefs. Where my belief and Catholic beliefs really diverge when it comes to how we are made clean. I believe that Jesus sacrifice washes away our sins and that although imperfect we will be found righteous. We do not 'become perfect' through the sanctification process. I see no purpose for purgatory.

James 2:14-26 will tell you all about works & faith; cause one is dead without the other.
But Tuor: are you saying that gods word does not say we have Everlasting life? it said it in many verses in john 3:15-16 it said if we believe,we should not perish but have everlasting life.
And in John 3:18 said he that believeth is not condemned.
And also in John 3:36 it said if you believe on the son, you have everlasting life. & also in John 6:47 verily, verily, i say unto you, he that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
And also he said; we will all sin & fall short of his glory.
But most of all; i will trust what his word tells me, & his word has told me in many verses through out the Bible, that i have Everlasting life promised to me by my lord & savior Christ Jesus, & that is from his word.
The Bible clearly states that there is an afterlife and that those who are found to be righteous will spend eternity in heaven and those who are not will be cast into the lake of fire where there is weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
My question to you is whether or not the Bible states that if a person believes in Jesus at some point in his/her life, then that person will be found righteous on the day of the Lord?
There are many places in the Bible where we are instructed that those who turn from God (hence at one time believed in God) will not be found righteous.
The Bible also warns that there will be people who call Jesus Lord, but will be rejected. I am not saying that this will be the case with you. I am just saying that it will happen.

Once saved always saved? Absolutely! I am a sheep in His pasture -- if I even wander away He comes to get me. I belong to Him. He bought me and paid for me. I am not my own.
It's that simple.
Sheep are very stupid animals. That is, I am sure, one reason we are considered sheep. They cannot care for themselves physically and we cannot care for ourselves spiritually. Thus, as Philippians 1:6 indicates, all is in His hand and I am His responsibility. I can be a pain in the neck to Him sometimes or very compliant and obedient. Kids come in different flavors -- even His kids. But that never causes Him to disinherit us!
The verse about "depart from me..." has to do with false teachers who use the name of Jesus but are not His start to finish. A lot of televangelists would fit in this category, I think!
