Hmmm, how, until an amendment was passed by congress and approved by 3/4 of the States or Commonwealths -

appointed more SC justices who understand life.

The only abortions he could stop would be by executive order for the executive dept - military ect.

I hope the law stands this asault! The conscience of those in the medical and health care professions is part of the trust and reliance placed in them when we are sick or in states of weakness and need. They desserve the right to practice within the constraints of their conscience, and not be forced into practices which go against their morals or ethical values. In every profession.... there is a broad range of representation so that a person seeking treatment will likely find someone willing to perform it....... like that recent woman who had 8 babies proves..... so I think its silly to think this means people would go lacking in care.

I know this was a joke but for the first 6 years the GOP had both houses and the WH. They certainly could have passed a law.

While I feel that Bush did try to do some things to prevenet abortion, I still don't believe he did enough. He, like anyone before him could have used an executive order to make abortion illegal.

I never used the word 'refused' - that was your choice of words.

I respect Pres Bush too much to think he refused, I think there are things he neglected.

He could have pushed strongly for a pro-life amendment.
He could have issued executive orders further restrictions on abortion.
Working with a Republican Congress national legislation restricting abortion funding to the states could have been pursued.

In fairness to Bush, I have no doubt he would have signed the legislation if the Congress had of put it on his desk. Executive orders can be reversed but Amending the Constitution is a lasting law.
