One more thing Bush did to fight abortion

Medical professionals who don't want to perform abortions or fill prescriptions that are contrary to their religious or ethical beliefs now have some help.

A federal law called 45 CFR Part 88 is already on the books to protect people in the profession on the basis of conscience, and former President George W. Bush implemented rules to enforce the law. Matt Bowman of Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) notes that Planned Parenthood and the ACLU have filed suit to block enforcement.

Now Rev, you know you're just grasping at straws; everybody knows that Bush, as president, could have stopped abortion, but didn't do it cause he is just a hypocrite.:BangHead: (Sarcasm OFF)

Hmmm, how, until an amendment was passed by congress and approved by 3/4 of the States or Commonwealths -
OR
appointed more SC justices who understand life.

The only abortions he could stop would be by executive order for the executive dept - military ect.

I hope the law stands this asault! The conscience of those in the medical and health care professions is part of the trust and reliance placed in them when we are sick or in states of weakness and need. They desserve the right to practice within the constraints of their conscience, and not be forced into practices which go against their morals or ethical values. In every profession.... there is a broad range of representation so that a person seeking treatment will likely find someone willing to perform it....... like that recent woman who had 8 babies proves..... so I think its silly to think this means people would go lacking in care.

I know this was a joke but for the first 6 years the GOP had both houses and the WH. They certainly could have passed a law.

While I feel that Bush did try to do some things to prevenet abortion, I still don't believe he did enough. He, like anyone before him could have used an executive order to make abortion illegal.

I have no doubts that Pres Bush did some good things regarding abortion. However, especially in the first six years so much more could have been done.

So tell us. What could he have done but just refused to do?

You enjoy pushing with 'hot button' words don't you.

I never used the word 'refused' - that was your choice of words.

I respect Pres Bush too much to think he refused, I think there are things he neglected.

He could have pushed strongly for a pro-life amendment.
He could have issued executive orders further restrictions on abortion.
Working with a Republican Congress national legislation restricting abortion funding to the states could have been pursued.

Because it was not his priority.

I am thankful for the lives he did have a part in saving.

So what conversations have you had with him to know what his priorities he had? And what road blocks did he encounter to these priorities?

Okay - you win. Bush did everything he could to deal with abortion and no one should ever be critical of his brilliant and perfect pro-life stand.

Or maybe we can be critical of those things that we actually know the details about instead of thinking we know what his priorities were.

Okay - I can agree to that. If we apply it equally to all politicians.

Great when you see me post as to some politicians "priorities" then call me on it if I cannot possibly know.

To be honest it is not worth bothering with.

I do appreciate the positive things that Pres Bush did and acknowledge them.

End of story for my part.

In fairness to Bush, I have no doubt he would have signed the legislation if the Congress had of put it on his desk. Executive orders can be reversed but Amending the Constitution is a lasting law.
