Open carry ... the price of freedom

Hmmm, maybe the police relax because you are white. Last year a black fellow, Philando Castile, was stopped, told the police he had a license and when he reached for it they shot him. Of course the policeman's defense was he was afraid that Castile was reaching for his, Castile's, guy and not his license. Do you remember the live stream of him being shot?

Thanks for bringing that up as it bears out a bit of the truth in the video ... a sad truth.
I don't care what color you are If I have you detained, and against orders you stick your hand inside clothing, its going to turn out bad for you.

LOL The never fail fall back position for a dedicated leftist, it's all about race.

Pathetic.

History and events are on my side.

If you want to really find out there are various medications you can take that will darken your complexion. John Howard Griffin did that years ago and then wrote the book, Black Like Me after traveling throughout the South. I feel the book would be even more interesting if he had traveled throughout the North also. So, why don't you get you doctor to give you preseciptions and duplicate his experience ... and write your book on what it is like currently to be a black man in our society? Of course, you would have to avoid getting shot as you reached to show your permit.

To test your belief that race has nothing to do with it, why not try it and see what you think after living as a black man?

By the way, you can buy a copy of Griffin's book for less than $2.00 on Amazon. Why, even your public library might still have a copy even though the book was published in 1961.

It is not 1961.

Maybe our God-given right to bear arms for self-defense will be taken away and the Bill of Rights will be repealed--who knows? Just suppose that only law enforcement could legally have guns. That means that criminals would continue to be armed to the teeth. A situation like that happened recently in Michoacán Mexico. The drug cartels were engaging in gang wars and the unarmed population was caught in the crossfire. The innocent were slaughtered. A medical doctor started a vigilante group to defend the helpless. However, his group was infiltrated by gang members seeking to use him to gain power. Eventually, the federal government moved in and disarmed the vigilantes. Recognizing the need for additional law enforcement in the state of Michoacán, the federal government then deputized willing cartel members while putting the medical doctor in federal prison.

The story is told in the documentary Cartel Land, which I will link at the bottom.

So the question becomes what will happen in the USA when the struggle is between criminal gangs and perhaps dishonest law enforcement. Won't the people be cannon fodder at the mercy of the government?

First thing he would have to do is find a time machine. Why don't you try checking back into reality and leave wacko land for a while?

I believe it would be most interesting for a white man to duplicate Griffin's experience and write a book on these times being a black man in our society. Why don't you try it? It might be just as you believe, but it might be very different from your currently held opinion.

Would you be willing?

CTB, you're mixing issues.

The video was over-the-top nonsense.

But trying to justify its idiocy with race issues, is making it worse.

Yes, American citizens have the right to keep and bear arms. The 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with why black men are being shot by policemen.

To answer that question, look at how policemen are being trained, and especially watch for subliminal training, whether intentional or unintentional.

I have done it my entire life. I am a Cherokee Indian. In the mid to late winter, I can kind of pass for white, but when the days get long, I look full blooded. I am a lot darker than the Chief of either the Western or Eastern bands, ill put it that way.

The right to self-defense is God-given but it is possible that the American government will take away that right and leave us at the mercy of armed criminals and police who despise justice and commit criminal acts themselves. This is what is happening all over Latin America in those countries whose citizens have no rights to own a weapon to provide for the God-given right of self defense.

No, it is funny. I take it you do not live in a state where people can open carry, so you may see it as satire on reality....but it isn't. It's funny, though.
We have a different sense of humor. I personally see nothing funny about it.

And why is that? Could it be that liberals only show the downside of owning a weapon.
How often has a TV sitcom have an episode about owning a firearm- and then either the firearm is lost or someone shoots an "innocent" person.

IIRC, it was on an old Dick Van Dyke show when the couple purchased a rifle because there had been some robberies in the neighborhood. Accompanied by gales of laughter, they handled the gun as if it were an electric eel, thus "confirming" that guns are so evil that merely touching them is a mortal hazard.

Last year a black fellow, Philando Castile, was stopped, told the police he had a license and when he reached for it they shot him.

From what I know of the case, which is undoubtedly a mere fraction, that tragedy came from a combo of bad police procedure and poor judgment by Castile, and in my relative ignorance of all the facts I'd lay more of the cause on that bad procedure. As soon as Castile announced that he was carrying, the cop should've backed away and asked Castile to exit the car after opening the door by reaching for the outside handle. Cops get understandably nervous when they cannot see a subject's hands. If I carried (which I do not) and was pulled over, I hope that I would have the sense to have ID/insurance ready before the officer approached my vehicle, would keep my hands in view while informing the officer that I was carrying, and if asked to exit, would do so as directed and allow the officer to withdraw the firearm. I'm white, but whatever color, it's in my self interest to avoid adding stress to an already stressful occupation.
