Opposing Sabbath
1. Opposing it’s origin -
God said:
(Gen 1-2 we see the “making” of both Mankind and the Sabbath )
“He rested the Seventh-day and sanctified it (– made it holy)” Gen 2:3
Christ then speaks to the “making of both”
The “Sabbath was Made for Mankind not mankind Made for the Sabbath” Mark 2:27
But Evolution makes that entire sequence “meaningless”. In which case the only real meaning with a literal 7 day week is in Exodus.
2. Limiting its authorship and scope –
God said:
The seventh-day is the Sabbath of the Lord Thy God” Ex 20:8-11
“The Holy Day of the Lord” Is 58:13
But If it can be “reworked” so that it is merely “the holy day of the jews” or possibly “the holy day of Moses” then if
You are not a Jew – you are exempt.
3. Rejecting the Law of God – as if it were an “act of faith”
God said:
“Do we then make void the Law of God by our faith? God forbid! In fact we Establish the Law of God” Rom 3:31
“What matters is keeping the commandments” 1Cor 7:19
“Not the hearers but the doers of the Law Will be Justified” Rom 2:10-13
But if we can somehow invent “a gospel” that destroys God’s Word – His Law that “is added” to whatever gospel was used in the OT
Then we can argue that “that Ten Commandments are ended or at least downsized so that we can go to heaven by grace”
(A good way to do that is to take Col 2 and argue that instead of our debt (certificate of debt NASB) nailed to the cross it is God’s Word – His Law that is nailed to the Cross)
4. Ignore the “all mankind scope” given for both OT saints and the New Earth
God said
“From Sabbath to Sabbath shall ALL Mankind come before Me to worship” Isaiah 66:23
But if we can say that He did not mean that this would really happen – or if He did mean it – he still intended for
Sabbath to be nailed to the cross – then brought back for all mankind in the New Earth – we might get at least some time without it – “by faith”.
What say you?
If you keep the Sabbath – how do you get around these barriers to “The Holy day of the Lord”??
If you do not keep the Sabbath – which path do you take to get there?
in Christ,
Bob
