Mom Shamed for Feeding Child Gets Apology from Church

"A pastor has apologized to a woman who said she was shamed for breastfeeding inside her church....Amy Marchant, 29, of Brighton said she asked for a public apology after she was accused of immodesty and potentially inspiring 'lustfulness' in men for nursing her child....Nothing was said to her at church. But when Marchant got home, she said she had a private Facebook message from a woman....'She said that ‘nursing fully exposed,’ the term she used, was making people uncomfortable,' Marchant said."

"The church supports and encourages breastfeeding, said Ben Walls Sr., lead pastor of...Brighton Nazarene Church....'We have nothing against breastfeeding, and we are in favor,' Walls said. 'We’re very sorry for the embarrassment and hurt'."

My stance on this is, I am NOT against any woman breast feeding, but she should cover up! it's immodest and disgusting. I am NOT gay, I do NOT want to see her breasts.

Pensacola News-Journal

"As of July, it is legal for a nursing mother to breastfeed in public in all 50 states. But, legal does not mean safe from gawking, hateful, or just plain rude observers."

"One Pensacola organization understands the dilemma of new mothers and hungry babies in public places — Emerald Coast Alliance for Breastfeeding Support (ECABS)....Dr. Ronda Yoder, a nursing instructor at Pensacola Christian College, is the president and one of the founders of ECABS....'Some moms are happy to breastfeed in public, but some aren’t,' Yoder said. 'It isn’t reasonable to always feed before you come out; and to cover the baby while feeding is not good for the baby or the mother.'

I think you'll find he was addressing adults at the time...unless you're suggesting your average new born understand koinē Greek...

I truly believe the majority of women who fight for flopping their breast out are feminists, and they do so just for attention. I truly doubt the issue is just feeding their baby, I have seen it! most of those women just love the attention! either way we are called to modesty. By law I am not allowed to run around with my breasts exposed or I will go to jail, but if I were to pop out a baby and nurse it and expose my breasts then I could walk around topless. Double standards much? one minute breasts are natural and the next they are not.

May I add, just because it's illegal now to tell a nursing mom to cover up don't mean that everyone is bound to follow that law. For instance I think if someone owns something like lets say a diner and they said hey lady cover up or go in the bathroom, I feel they have every right to do so! Now I absolutely agree that by law they should never be able to deny a woman to nurse their baby! but it's their business and I feel they should have the right to ask her to be modest! I have seen women leave and go in the car to breastfeed! it's not hard ladies! I have also seen women do the right thing and cover up! that too is also not hard! I do NOT buy the excuse that oh no it's too hot under this blanket, listen I am a mother! babies LOVE to be swaddled it makes them feel safe!

Look if we Christians want store owners to have the right to bake or not to bake a wedding cake for homosexuals because it's their business and it should be their right, then why can't store owners tell a nursing mom to show a little decency by covering up?

I think you'll find that most women who fight (why on earth should thye have to?)for breastfeeding in public want the best for their baby, many under advice from.healthcare professionals who know.more about the issue than you or I do
either way we are called to modesty.
Breastfeeding is not immodest; it's the best way for baby to get it's nourishment. I take it you're pro-life? I'm not sure how you can square support for the unborn child with support for measures resulting in reducing the opportunities for the new born child to thrive.

No, that's an erroneous sexualisation and objectification of breastfeeding that is unbecoming in a Christian

May I add, just because it's illegal now to tell a nursing mom to cover up don't mean that everyone is bound to follow that law.
You may add all you like but that doesn't make it true - that's what 'illegal' means (free advice from a lawyer; you're welcome)
For instance I think if someone owns something like lets say a diner and they said hey lady cover up or go in the bathroom
Would you eat your dinner in the bathroom? Then why should a baby have to?
, I feel they have every right to do so!
No they don't - again, that's what 'illegal' means
Now I absolutely agree that by law they should never be able to deny a woman to nurse their baby!
Odd, because that's exactly what you're asking for them to be able to do
it's their business and I feel they should have the right to ask her to be modest!
I ask again: would you therefore be happy to be asked to.eat your dinner in the bathroom? After all, its their business; their right to tell you where to feed!
I have seen women leave and go in the car to breastfeed! it's not hard ladies!
Fine, come.back to me when youve had your three course meal in the car!
