Mom Shamed for Feeding Child Gets Apology from Church

"A pastor has apologized to a woman who said she was shamed for breastfeeding inside her church....Amy Marchant, 29, of Brighton said she asked for a public apology after she was accused of immodesty and potentially inspiring 'lustfulness' in men for nursing her child....Nothing was said to her at church. But when Marchant got home, she said she had a private Facebook message from a woman....'She said that ‘nursing fully exposed,’ the term she used, was making people uncomfortable,' Marchant said."

"The church supports and encourages breastfeeding, said Ben Walls Sr., lead pastor of...Brighton Nazarene Church....'We have nothing against breastfeeding, and we are in favor,' Walls said. 'We’re very sorry for the embarrassment and hurt'."
I agree with the "busybody."

Ah. Yet another thread on the evils of women and what they do wrong.

Of course, she should be covered. That's a no-brainer.

But this thread...….just more of the same.

Pensacola News-Journal

"As of July, it is legal for a nursing mother to breastfeed in public in all 50 states. But, legal does not mean safe from gawking, hateful, or just plain rude observers."

"One Pensacola organization understands the dilemma of new mothers and hungry babies in public places — Emerald Coast Alliance for Breastfeeding Support (ECABS)....Dr. Ronda Yoder, a nursing instructor at Pensacola Christian College, is the president and one of the founders of ECABS....'Some moms are happy to breastfeed in public, but some aren’t,' Yoder said. 'It isn’t reasonable to always feed before you come out; and to cover the baby while feeding is not good for the baby or the mother.'
Am I then free to record it on my cell phone and upload it to youtube? If it is perfectly natural for everyone to watch and there is no expectation of privacy, then why not?

This baby was 1 year old ... old enough to be eating solid food.
Yes, but also young enough to still be breastfed. It's up to the mother not you when she stops.

Equally, I presume from what you're saying about the age of the baby being relevant that you'd be totally fine with a new born being breastfed uncovered.

Neither the pastor nor the church did anything to apologize for.

The woman was making unreasonable demands, illustrating to me that she like to be the center of attention. Perhaps that's the reason she exposed herself unnecessarily.

No you wouldn't because - guess what - It's none of your darn business. Here's a bit of advice that's easy to take: if a breastfeeding mother is putting you off your food/pastor's latest sermon/ your marriage vows (because you're a weirdo)/ your favourite football game, then don't darn well look

I'm not a mod - but I'm asking this thread to be closed as it has taken the typical downward spiral into vulgarity and Beavis and Butthead type comments about nursing women.

Either that or send it to the men's forum.

I don't why I even come here anymore.

I am puzzled and dismayed that those who should be and claim to be pro-life* nevertheless are bent on making life yet more difficult for mothers and their children: a mother's lot in life is hard enough as it is without some moralising interfering busybody launching a Crusade Against the Exposure of the Female Feeding Nipple

*Offer expires at birth for some people.it sadly seems

[ETA: I agree with Scarlett's request but not as an excuse for yet more misogynistic vulgarity to be allowed just because it's in the Men's Forum; we ought to be better people than that]
