I realize that is how it comes off to people, and it's something that shouldn't have been said at this time.

Mayor Nagin of New Orleans said much the same thing about hurricanes being a sign that "God is mad at America", and yet very little was ever said about it. At least Pat Robertson has the excuse of being old.
This reminds me (I should not have forgotten); that pastor Obama had associated with, and it even put his campaign in danger! He too was pronouncing judgment on this country, and yet it was from an entirely different angle, and that was a totally different story now, and the conservatives did not like it one bit!

Well, here is one conservative pastor who thinks it is ridiculous to think a person can know what God is thinking. And I think PR is a heretic idiot who happens to be a false prophet... He preaches the heretical prosperity false gospel.. thinks he can heal people.. and makes predictions like a new age prophet...

PR does not speak for Christians...
He is a preacher from Hell!

I am astounded that people feel the right to take it on themselves to decide when God is judging a people.
I find them somewhat dense who presume to speak for God from the pulpit but cannot discern God's judgment in the world.

This is the same mindset that said, 'Who sinned that this man should be blind?'
It's a good question to ask when one is afflicted. Those who asked were not rebuked.

Wright was right when he said the chickens had come home to roost. But Wright hates America and wishes for its damnation.

I love America and pray for its perservation.

I did not say God said so..
It is rational logic to see that PR is an idiot
It is ecomomic common sense to see that PR is a con-man
It is Biblical theology that proves he is a false prophet...

Anyone that has any reasoning skills can come to the same conclusion that Barney Fife had with Ernest Bass...

"That guy's a nut!"

So he is "prosperity gospel"? I've heard people toss something like that at him, but never heard him teach it as blatantly as the Word Faith; et al.
Still, as I said, the principles do parallel with his political ideology.
It's a good question to ask when one is afflicted. Those who asked were not rebuked.
It's still not for someone to pronounce on someone else.
And even if it might bee good to ask it about one's self at times; still, if you take this too far; it does lead to an assumption of prosperity gospel (i.e. health and weath are the reward for obedience to God).
Wright was right when he said the chickens had come home to roost. But Wright hates America and wishes for its damnation.

Well, it seems it is an ideal of America (And a romanticized view of its past) people love, and because America is not living up to that ideal now, they act like they do hate the nation as it actually is. It was they who practically cheered 911 because of homosexuals and abortion. Wright just hated something different than what the conservatives hate.

Is there a transcript of what PR said which contains the whole context?

I heard in on radio once.... but have not found a transcript..... And my impression was that he did not say this was a judgement. Thus, he did not 'put words into God's mouth' as some here are alleging.

The question is......
Does God sometimes send judgement?
Are all 'natural' events under his control?
Can a natual disaster occur without being tied to judgement..... and if so.... for what purpose? (Hint.... read Job)
Is it possible that we are living in the 'end times'?
If not..... why not..... when even the apostles considered the immenency of Christ return?
If so..... then doesn't the Bible speak of increasing calls for peace and safety.... frantic solutions to bring this about including allegiances between nations, laws, economies, and religions bonding together? Doesn't the Bible speak of increasing events taking place... wars, earthquakes, changes in the weather, the sun and the moon, increases in sin and blasphemy and mocking of God?

So many of us believe we'll be saved (raptured) before the tribulation. But what if the tribulation is what follows a heralding or warning of smaller events which God uses to warn the people to turn from their wickedness...... but noman is spiritual enough or perceptive enough to preach it?

Therein lies the problem......

And my perception is that on this board.... unless some do some serious rethinking.... there are many who will refuse to warn of the coming judgement..... or consider that these events are the prelude of more to come or a call to the lost to trust Jesus Christ NOW for their salvation before it is too late!

And you pronounce other Christians "idiots" "Heretics" and "preachers from hell". Glad you know what God is thinking.
I'd say it's pretty obvious to know what God's thinking on this topic from His Word, the Bible - unless you're suggesting of course that He doesn't reveal His thinking via that medium. I wouldn't presume to speak for Tim, but I would hazard more than an educated guess that he was telling it how he reads it.

In the same way that you read two seperate events five years apart as a hurricane "promptly changing course"?

Pat Robertson says, and his website says :
  • There is only one God, and Christ Jesus is the only one who can bring us to God (1 Timothy 2:5).
  • Christ died once for our sins. An innocent person died for those who are guilty. Christ did this to bring you to God
    (1 Peter 3:18).
  • But God showed how much He loved us by having Christ die for us, even though we were sinful (Romans 5:8).
  • So you will be saved, if you honestly say, Jesus is Lord, and if you believe with all your heart that God raised Him from death. God will accept you and save you, if you truly believe this (Romans 10:9-10).
That is not heretical or unBiblical.

I do realize that Pat is sometimes wrong, but are you always right? And do you have enemies watching you and just hoping you trip up the way that he does?

Ok, just your opinion. Guess I'll have to get my reasoning skills up to par and then we can all pile on. Good times!

It doesn't matter that a bird calls itself a swan: if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck etc

If any 'pact' is to blame for Haiti's situation, it's the pact they were forced to make with the French in 1825: under the threat of military action by the French the Haitian government agreed to pay an indemnity of 60 million francs (to put it in perspective, Jefferson paid 60 million francs for the Louisiana Territory) as 'compensation' to former slave owners in the ex-colony, with a punitive rate of interest; as a result, Haiti only paid this debt off in 1947 by which time it was effectively destitute and easy prey for dictators and domestic and foreign corruption. So, if you want to know why Haiti is so royally messed up, blame the French.

My son went to Haiti as a teen with a mission group from SC some 30+/- years ago.

Interestingly, he came back with the same "tale" - that the Haitians had made a pact with the devil for freedom!

I'll be sure to tell him that he is a false prophet. Unfortunately, he is no longer under my control or I would certainly see that he was stoned to death!!

So, for you PR "haters", ( I ain't too crazy about him myself, but really guys---) this idea did not originate with him.

Matt B sez:

Frankly, this sounds just like a deal the devil would offer, but then ----!

The 'pact with the devil' thing is a bit of an urban myth that's 'bigged up' by some of the locals (typically vacation reps) to increase the scare factor for the tourists, along with voodoo dolls, tales of human sacrifice and zombies etc - it all adds to a potent frisson of excitement to attract more visitors to the country.

Interesting!! Got some verification of this??

I'm serious about this; if it's wrong I would like to so inform my son just to set the record straight.

(My point for the post was simply to show that PR was not the originator of this idea, as some here seemed to think. As to him, well, like I said - I'm not crazy about him for many reasons, but if you're gonna "not like him" at least "not like him" for legitimate reasons; even though 'It doesn't change the fact that he's a loon.')

Thanks!! JWP
