"Simply write the book" would require copying the entire work. ;-)

You meant "Simply give the title of the book, magazine or article."

"Simply write the book and author's name at the end of your post", is easily understood to mean write the name of the book and the name of the author. No need for you to go nuclear pedantic.

I have been accused of plagiarism twice. Once when somebody quoted me quoting someone else and left the attribution off the quote.

The second time was in class when I quoted an author without identifying the author. A student pointed out the fact I was quoting someone. He was right. I asked him if he knew who the author was. He said he would check. (Hint: I was the author.) He apologized before the entire class the next day. :D:D
LOL, that reminds me of a similar situation!

As a software architect/engineer I worked off and on as a contractor at a now defunct computer manufacturing plant in Augusta Maine.

I was hired on as a contractor to upgrade several software applications by recompiling them with the latest COBOL compiler. This usually results in compiler errors which require text corrections.

One of the newer managers balked saying "I don't think Hank is competent enough for the task, this software has not failed yet and I don't want him touching it, get someone else".

She managed the programmers for the mainframe computer scheduling software.

The plant manager said "Hank, I want you to tell her".

You guessed it. I had designed, written and installed the package 7 years earlier :Biggrin

Like your student she graciously and humbly apologized (but not publicly).

Actually, the way I said it is perfectly acceptable in 2017 colloquial English, which is what we use here on the BB. Some people just like to cause trouble. ;)

Pet peeve: grammar nazis. I generally proof what I write one time, but the BB is not an important enough venue to me to do more than that. And usually, the grammar nazi has one finger pointing and three fingers pointing back at himself. :Tongue

Shouldn't this read "one finger pointing forward"? :Geek
